I found the best way to recycle my old tubes!
😍😍😍 Brilliant!
What are your exact settings for volume and low pass filter on your SVS sub?
I don't have an SVS sub, but have always tried to set my sub low pass crossover at it's lowest setting (usually 40 or 50hz), then set the gain so that I can barely hear it except for on bass heavy passages.  I use the sub only to augment the botto...
another rookie question - preamp or or power amp
@audiotroy ,,,what matters is the quality of the parts True, but it’s worth noting that if you took the preamp section out of a good integrated amp, gave it it’s own power supply and enclosure, and used it to power the same amp, it would have...
Do you adjust your subwoofer
Mine is a set it and forget it component.  The sub's output should be proportionate to the rest of the system, and controlled by the main volume. Occasionally I'll make a minor adjustment, but the sub settings have an unofficial default setting th...
another rookie question - preamp or or power amp
If you plan to get one good integrated amp and be done with it, an IA is a good option. If you figure to continue your journey to other levels, the move to separates makes the most sense to me. All of the best systems I’ve heard had separates. At ...
another rookie question - preamp or or power amp
There are some really good integrated amps, but there are advantages in going with separates too.  Which is better is a variable...it depends on the particular component in question.  If you get another integrated, it could be an upgrade, or it co...
Phono preamp, all suggestions welcome
The Hagerman Cornet 3 kit would be on my short list
Do I upgrade my cartridge or my turntable
@chayro gave good advice IMO. I’d be inclined to climb up the cartridge or stylus food chain before swapping the TT.
when your hearing is not as good as it was . . .
This doesn’t directly answer your question. At 63 I’m certain that my hearing isn’t as good as it once was, but I’m also fairly certain that I’m better at recognizing problems areas within a system. I’m a more experience and more patient listener ...
Magico A3 replacement
@dpm2340  A couple others that have crossed my mind are Avalon and Verity. Wilson is also on my radar. Ironically, Avalons powered by Grant/Lumley tube amps and CAT SL-1 pre is one of the other best sounding systems I've spent some time with. ...
Magico A3 replacement
Have you ever heard the Magicos on a great tube amp?   Driven by CAT amps/pre, the Magico S5MKII is at the top of the heap of systems I've had some longer term exposure to (not just a few minutes at a show).  Unbelievable clarity and dynamics.   ...
Sound Stage and Imaging
Build a good kit. Some are excellent, and if you can type, you can build the kit. Obviously the whole concept is setup for best bang for the buck...the retail gravy train only has to make one stop.
Have we lost civility and respect on Audio forums?
Some have, but not all for sure. We all have our moments, and triggers...after all, it’s a subject we’re passionate about, and likely proud of. Something near and dear to us, so it inherently makes us a bit more vulnerable than a topic we don't gi...
How can I solve my preamp/DAC/subwoofer issue without spending lots of money?
Does the subwoofer have high level speaker inputs?  If so, you should be able to just run the sub in parallel with your main speakers off the same amplifier speaker outputs. If your sub doesn't have high level inputs, I see used active subs that ...
I am looking to upgrade - looking for advice
@ghdprentice @grislybutter are spot on. It’s a chain that works together, and the weakest link is what you’ll hear once once the clarity reaches a high level. Patience, synergy, research, and lots of listening when you make changes is your bes...
