@panzrwagn Maybe cables matter, but y’all understand that bi-wiring does absolutely nothing, right? You’re still sending a full-range signal down both pairs, the crossovers still do their low-pass/high-pass roles. And at 10-12 ft the series res...
Female vocals
Well recorded vocals are a great way to evaluate the clarity and natural characteristics of your system.  Some of them are also awesome performances.  I love a lot of female vocals, but will listen to plenty of male vocals too.   Lately I've been...
Crossover Redo on my Amrita Audio Floorstanders
Can you still read the values printed on the crossover parts?  Unless you can find a schematic, that's likely your best option.  If they're not legible, my educated "guess" is that the measurable crossover values should still be pretty close to or...
Horns with good timbre and tonality?
Avantgarde are arguably some of the best horns going.
Getting Back In - But Doing it Sanely
Prima Luna, Rogue, Raven Nighthawk are all well regarded. The latest Willsenton gets good marks too, and has addressed some former issues with earlier versions. If you're willing to pursue separates, the VTA amps represent great performance for t...
replace Mid-range speaker of Green Mountain Audio Imago VI
The crossover plays an essential role in what the speakers sound like.  If  you simply replace what you think is a faulty driver with an exact replacement, the crossover inside the speaker should perform as it did with the original, though some br...
Tube sound is not about warmth. It's about correct presentation.
If "correct presentation" is clarity and all the good stuff that comes with that, then yes, I agree.  To me the tube "warmth" is just lack of overemphasized, unnatural treble.
At what price is one considered an Audiophile.
It’s not about cost....it’s about passion, enthusiasm, and commitment for great audio gear and reproducing great sounding music in your living space.
replace Mid-range speaker of Green Mountain Audio Imago VI
Something is causing that buzz...dust cap, loose mounting screw, misplaced wire., etc Can you get at the midrange, remove it, and take a good look for a possible physical cause, or do you think it has voice coil or former damage?
Why would someone feel the need to comment unpleasant things on sale posts
Sometimes they're just being ar$eholes.
Testing your system
@waytoomuchstuff  Listen twice.  Measure once. Priceless! 😂
New Speaker advice
Most dealers understand the need to listen in your own room.  I'd definitely try to get your leading candidate or two in your room.   I'd be tempted to upgrade the preamp before doing anything....you may gain a new appreciation for you have.
Am I wasting money on the theory of Bi-amping?
@lonemountain Why no comment about all the wire and passive components between the amplifier and driver ? ... I’ll take a stab, but can only speak for myself and guess on behalf of others. If you own a pair of speakers that you love, or simpl...
Am I wasting money on the theory of Bi-amping?
@lonemountain There are pros and cons with active, and with passive crossovers. In a perfect world, active crossovers have some distinct benefits....especially if starting up from scratch, but many of us get to the bi-amp situation once we’re al...
Tradeoffs of external phono stages?
External phono stages can offer some improvements, depending on which one, but they also introduce another set of cables that can increase capacitance and change the impedance characteristics a bit.
