Do you think driver “break in” is real?
@willywonka "I know I’m the minority, but I think break-in for almost all audio products is non-existent! It’s your hearing that is changing and adjust to the new sound, NOT the stereo components! The whole BREAK IN thing is mostly complete non...
Do you think driver “break in” is real?
There's a definite physical break in of woofer suspension components...spider, surround, etc.  I'm a believer that there's burn in of capacitors too, but that's less tangible and harder to grasp for some.
Bi Amping: highs and lows or a seperate amp for the left and right.
With a vertical stereo bi-amp configuration, there’s still the benefit of the tweeter (and mid) running on a different circuit than the woofer. Even if the power supply is shared by two channels, each channel sees a different circuit load (assumin...
Best Vintage tube amp / preamp manufacturer
Dynaco was likely never considered "best" in sheer performance, but it could certainly be argued that they were best bang for the buck.  Very good gear for the money... they sold a boatload, and are still somewhat relevant today. Eico, Scott, Str...
Bi Amping: highs and lows or a seperate amp for the left and right.
Two identical stereo amps run in a vertical bi-amp configuration (one amp on each speaker) have similar advantages as monoblocks...physical separation, no crosstalk, and a dedicated power supply for each speaker. Plus, you can run the tweeters or ...
Is there miracles in audio experience ?
Eureka! It's a miracle! 😎 Along time ago I gave up trying to chase down and understand all the phenomena that occur in my system that I simply don’t fully understand, but by the definition stated in your last paragraph, yeah, I hear those "miracl...
Are cable “upgrades” just as likely to make your system sound worse?
According to the rules of placebo effect , it should sound better if that’s what you had hoped for! 😁 Honestly, what we prefer is always subjective, but I’ve definitely had cables that I didn’t like, or at least that had traits I didn't want in t...
Dynaco ST-70 vs Mark 3
Sound quality is always subjective. The Mk IIIs have a bit more power, and the benefit physically separate channels (no crosstalk), plus each channel has it’s own power supply. VTA (Tubes4Hifi.com) has some mods for Dyna amps, that I found to be ...

@panzrwagn Maybe cables matter, but y’all understand that bi-wiring does absolutely nothing, right? You’re still sending a full-range signal down both pairs, the crossovers still do their low-pass/high-pass roles. And at 10-12 ft the series res...
Female vocals
Well recorded vocals are a great way to evaluate the clarity and natural characteristics of your system.  Some of them are also awesome performances.  I love a lot of female vocals, but will listen to plenty of male vocals too.   Lately I've been...
Crossover Redo on my Amrita Audio Floorstanders
Can you still read the values printed on the crossover parts?  Unless you can find a schematic, that's likely your best option.  If they're not legible, my educated "guess" is that the measurable crossover values should still be pretty close to or...
Horns with good timbre and tonality?
Avantgarde are arguably some of the best horns going.
Getting Back In - But Doing it Sanely
Prima Luna, Rogue, Raven Nighthawk are all well regarded. The latest Willsenton gets good marks too, and has addressed some former issues with earlier versions. If you're willing to pursue separates, the VTA amps represent great performance for t...
