Seeking advice on Speakers that create an intimate 2 channel listening experience
I may be a little late to the game to add any meaningful advice, but incase You haven't made a decision yet.....Regarding the Quads and the Maggies, I, over the years, have owned and immensely enjoyed both. For 20 years I had as my primary speaker...
What do you sit on?
Since my little Maggies, as set up, image incredibly well, in or out of the sweet spot and being line source, seating height isn't critical, I am most happy with my three cushion Flex Steel sofa. It is medium firm and comfortable for long listenin...
is this the greatest live band of all time?
My vote is for The Lennon Sisters.Followed, of course, a close second by Pink Floyd.....Jim
good discussion on power cords
Not to offend, but IMO - If you have a $10K amp. properly matched with your pre amp and speakers and it takes a $2K power cord to make it sound good, - I'd ditch that sucker and buy an amp with a decent power supply and save yourself a couple of g...
Really need some help finding a full range speaker
If you can find a used pair of the PSB Stratus Gold i, they are a very dynamic speaker with deep and solid bass. Also, if you have room to place them out from the wall, at least 2’, and 2’ from the side walls, they are also very open, with a large...

Low volume listening dynamics
For the last several years, I have adjusted the volume level down. Most of my listening now is at a more comfortable, maybe 55-60 db. For me is kind of a sweet spot - loud enough to be dynamic and for the highs to come out, but low enough to keep ...
I can prove your room is bad
@kinjitIf listening to music in an anechoic chamber is your thing, have at it.No wonder you hate all speakers....Jim
I can prove your room is bad
@kenjit About 22 years ago at a sound studio in LA. How about you?Is a great tool for mixing, editing or picking out nuances in the music; not so much if you just want to enjoy a musical performance. Jim
I can prove your room is bad
@erik_squires Roy Allison and others would have argued: What is it with these lame ass speaker designers who don't design their speakers to be up against a wall where they belong?? WOW! I hope my wife doesn't read that. It took almost two years f...
I can prove your room is bad
@three_easy_payments While I'm a huge proponent of applying smart room treatments I don't believe the room should fail to influence the sound at all. That's what's implied by suggesting the best sound you can get from your room is benchmarked at ...
I can prove your room is bad
@kingsleuy   Hell will be paid if I move the speakers out into the room. What is there about women and speakers being too far out into the room? I think there must be universal something in their heads that just snaps and makes them a little crazy,...
WAF --
@hleeid Very good story. It sounds familiar in so many ways. When I got the Maggies, I started with them at about 2 ft. from the wall. She said that’s nice, but can they be a little closer to the wall? Ea. day I fudged them out a bit farther, until...
Youngsters these days.
++dramatictenor and markpao I also have very little problems with crackle and pops on my LPs and overall, for critical listening, to me, they sound more musical and engaging than CDs, but I haven’t the experience with streaming to make a fair call...
Youngsters these days.
Thanks uberwaltz, I'll check on that.....Jim
