Youngsters these days.
@stevencasonMaybe he thinks if you want a new CD player you should buy it. When I help my family I never ask for anything in return. No, pretty sure he knew I was kidding about the buying part. His response was more about why anyone would want or u...

@oldhvymec You are lucky to have kids that will want and appreciate your audio, when you move on.My son lives many miles away and has so many other interests, that does not include music, I doubt that anything to do with my audio gear or collectio...

@oregonpapa I can relate to all of that! And Thanks from me as well@bdp24 He has a killer computer and gaming system, but the sound system is just a sound bar and ear buds for on the go. OK I guess but nothing like the systems we were interested i...

@big_greg By the way, "OK Boomer" isn't really a compliment. I'm nearing 60.I see that now. Guess I'm going to have to have a talk with that young man LOL.....Jim

Thanks all for the comments and advise. While I probably will never give up my LPs and CDs, I might do well to upgrade to a newer (either new or used) CDP/DAC capable of running streaming devices. When it comes to streaming, never say never, I gue...

@cleeds Ripping all my favorite CDS to a NAS drive also seems like a lot of work to me and probably a bit expensive....Jim
What kind of listener are you?
Over the years, I came to the conclusion that the one thing that all, or near all, live performances have in common is a fullness and a richness in the music that is sometimes not captured in our home systems. It's a tight rope act to get that swe...
If you had to start all over again in this day and age
I started my in home audio journey back in mid 70s with basic Pioneer and Denon Electronics and BIC speakers; quickly moving up to other electronic ie. Harman/Kardon, Tandberg, Nakamichi and Thorns and speakers ie. Klipch, Mission and Vandersteen....
Unreal prices
Someplace, in storage I still have my mothers old SX750 receiver, her Pioneer PL100 TT. with a Shure cartridge. and Denon (can't remember the model) cassettes player. She also had a pr. of HPM-100 speakers, I think went to my sister.I never really...
Dedicated 20 amp circuit - Electrician laughed!
@jea48 Yep, that was exactly it :-) Not sure when the original house was built, but it was very old when we moved in when, I was a young child, in early 50s.I believe you're right, it does seem that that old wiring was copper and the wire we repla...
Dedicated 20 amp circuit - Electrician laughed!
Back in the old days (I can say that now) in the early 50s, our family home was wired with old stranded aluminum, textile insulated wires; one hot and one neutral with no ground. They all ran under the house from joist to joist through glass insul...
Dedicated 20 amp circuit - Electrician laughed!
Don't get me wrong, I completely believe that Audio components should not be in a circuit that is shared by appliances. I also believe high current amps usually work best plugged directly into a wall receptacle and on a dedicated circuit, or at le...
Dedicated 20 amp circuit - Electrician laughed!
I think that some of you guys buying into some of the crazy ideas here need to get a copy of the residential NEC. First: NEC does NOT allow separate earth grounds in any circuit that is connected to your primary service (the service that comes to ...
Lifespan of amps and preamps?
Getting a new system for the new office seems like a good way to enjoy what you have while trying a new direction. Also could be an opportunity, when you get the time, to experiment back and forth and mix things around a bit. While I am now using ...
Most recordings you own by a single artist, group, or composer
About a toss-up between Van Morrison, Neil Diamond (wife's favorite) Mark Knopfler and Pink Floyd. A mix of everything else from R&B to Irish Folk (Celtic) to Classical. One of my favorite newer artists is Amos Lee...a real story teller....Jim
