A DIY Swarm-based Distributed Bass Array for SOTA Bass @Hey, Tim, could you elaborate on the placement of the 4 subs in your room? Are they spread throughout the room (even behind you), or are they concentrated on one end with the main speakers?I ask because I am considering the Swarm, and Duke has r...
Roxul Rockwool or Owens Corning Thermafiber I bought 4 boxes of Roxul sized 2' x 4' x 12", with sheets inside where some were 2" thick and some 1" thick (and they've got 4" thick, too, if you want it). Got them for a reasonable cost on Amazon, and they arrived well intact. Made for some n...
Bookshelf Recommendations For stand mounting, the Ref 3a and Sonus Faber lines already mentioned are well worth looking into.
Bookshelf Recommendations OP: are you planning to use them in a bookshelf, or are you just typifying small speakers as "bookshelf"? True bookshelf placement is a true watershed for most speakers, and many of the recommendations listed above would not fare well place such...
Herbies Pucks floor spike protectors... I added the Decoupling Gliders in brass a few months back to ride under the 3 spikes per speaker. I felt that they brought a nice touch fullness in the lower registers without losing musical definition, and the mids up seem a bit clearer, too. A...
Selling Tubes. I can second TC Tubes for testing services. I had them test a pile of Winged C 6550's and Ei KT-90's last year (nice that they are in the same metro area!). Tyler was very informative in evaluating the results, and his Amplitrex tester is first ...
A DAC that can make digital sound analog? I have always been a vinyl guy, and also had CD players and then DAC's that did the digital chores. IME digital kept staying clearly inferior due to something just not right in the highs - - until I started using R2R DAC's. I first built an Audi...
Berkeley Alpha DAC vs Lampizator Big7 I owned both DAC systems you are asking about, first the BADA DAC + USB, then the Lampi Big 7. The move to the Big 7 was a lovely upgrade for me and my system. It brought more of everything, and in a more holistic musical presentation. It was m...
Most Recent ROON Upgrade Quite Nice I just started using Roon a month ago, and do like it quite a lot for the info and navigability. One thing that perplexes me, however, is the lack of a function to pause the playing queue at the end of the playing track. I previously used Foobar...
Hey RICH Audiophiles I think the OP's request is poisoned fruit, really. If you really cannot afford it, don't tempt yourself to develop a taste for it, because you risk basking in disappointment as a result of the knowledge. Just enjoy the best you can afford and g...
Would you put Beryllium in your ears? Interesting risks here:" Risk to workers depends considerably on their work tasks. For example, machinists in both ceramics and nuclear weapons manufacture have been found to have an increased risk of developing sensitization. This is probably du...
Back to the drawing board A pragmatic solution is to go the Audio Kinesis Swarm route, where you use 4 smaller subs asymmetrically positioned such that their inevitable peaks and nulls even out.
Favorite band or artist of all time? If it had to be just one musical personality, it would be J.S. Bach.
ADS L810 That speaker is getting so old that it might have troubled electrolytic capacitors in its crossover, too. tomic601's suggestion of crossover swapping would prove that angle out, as well.
THD on AC mains--what level is typical? My PS Audio P-10's both report ~3.8% in my neck of the woods, typically (middle of a 3+MM population metro area). The regenerators do make that sound better once they are done reconstructing the signal. |
