Thoughts on Active/Passive Speakers? Looking for pros and cons. Only con of active is you can’t tune the sound with different amps. All other things being equal are better IMO.
I heard the Box Not directed at anyone, The box sounds different than one would think. When I hear the box the sound stage collapses. Not some boxy sound. I think port noise is sometimes confused with the box flexing and making noise.
Revel 226be vs. 228be I have only heard the 328be but they have very seamless integration between the mids/highs and bass. I can’t think of a better integrated box speaker off the top of my head. The 228be is probably bordering on super speaker performance at a good pr...
New Speakers $10K -$20K Some eye/ear candy. https://youtu.be/DR3dZEHPg38
New Speakers $10K -$20K I really like Sonus Faber but the new models no longer have a warm sound. They are a neutral speaker these days. Try to listen before you buy. I can’t comment on the others.
Apple Music The only way to run high-res from a phone is from an external dac. The dongle has a limit of 44.1khz with a 24 bit depth. So everything is down sampled through the dongle so it is a moot point. The high res is pretty night and day better with the ...
Apple Music Hmm I hear a big difference between the Gregory Porter “All Rise” Lossless and 24-96 high res album. The 256 to lossless is less noticeably. I think this is because apples 256 codec is very good. You can switch instantly and it is very easy to hea...
Klipsch Cornwall IV Cap changes are frustrating because it should not need done. I swear every speaker at even crazy prices come with crap internals.
Ken Fritz' Dream System documentary. Well worth watching. Thanks.
New Mag 3.7i vs Sonus Faber/Wilson/Mcint 2nd hand? Running subs opens your options (I also run duel subs). The bass is really where the Sophia shines over the others. But with the subs the others might pull ahead. Especially if you highpass. If you are not high passing your subs I bet that would i...
New Mag 3.7i vs Sonus Faber/Wilson/Mcint 2nd hand? I have heard some of these in different systems. I have heard the Sofia 3 on a number of different amps. The Sonus faber on ClasseThe Maggie’s on a mc352 or mc452. Not sure. Anyway these all sound really different. The Sophia 3 is a great speaker ...
Single vs. Dual Subs I have two JL audio E112s both are high-passed at 60hz but no dsp. Over the last few months both broke (bad volume pots) and needed repaired so I had one sub at a time as I rotated then out for repair. During this time I optimized the placement wi...
When is a mismatched center OK? I would just run phantom center which runs the center channel through your mains. If you sit in the middle you don’t need one as the mains image well. Phantom center is typically better than having a center as the mains are more full range. The ce...
klipsh scala speakers I personally don’t care for them. You can really hear the cabinet in them and they have no bass. He would need subs for sure. A number of people like them so demo before you buy as they are pretty different from modern speakers. I like the Cornwal...
I finally added a second REL Sub Yes two subs is great for every system. Best upgrade I ever made. Something you should try is high passing them. I 100% sure you will get better sound, as in much better. Crossing them over higher (40hz-70hz, I use 60hz,). This is not a low pass b... |
