How do I know if my systems any good?
Honestly gauge it against a pair of headphones. Headphones are a good gut check to see how your room is too. Headphones have issues too like pad bounce in the cups that cause issue around 2k but most good ones are very good.
Moving on a sailboat - bookshelf speakers?
I would buy powered speakers with room correction. Genelec or something like the JBL 4329P, and many others.
horn or line array?
I found the demonstration at the 1:30 mark in this video very interesting.   How the lack of horizontal sound shift of a line source compares to a constant directivity horn is hard to say.   https://youtu.be/8c-gD4mwI8A
horn or line array?
Horn/line array combos are what JBL uses in their professional line. The VTX V25 units are what I am thinking of. They stack into a line source but would be comically large for home use and ugly. But honestly they are probably pretty high fidelity...
horn or line array?
Both, horn in a line array lol.

All new Yamaha YH-5000 Review !
I will watch the video later but doubtful.     I do think everyone should own a good set and A/B it with their speakers. It will helps sort out room issues and keep you grounded while playing with new speaker gear.  I have taken headphones to spe...
Worth upgrading from MC611 to MC901?
My local dealer was messing around and bi-amped a pair of 805D4 with an MC275 on the top end and one of the two channel integrated amps on the bottom (MAC7200 I think) and it was pretty impressive how much it changed the sound. Don’t ask me about ...
Kef and McIntosh
Honestly just have a pretty lukewarm feeling about Kef. They do nothing wrong but nothing great IMO. You should just listen yourself and see, maybe you will love them as many people do. $2k can go a long way if you are open to speakers that are us...
Can you give me your speaker suggestions?
If you like horns there is no going back as the dynamics are addictive. Sonus Faber would be super boring unless you are into “audiophile” music… I am not. But they would be balanced. I heard the Olympica III and Cornwall Vi back to back at my dea...
Subwoofers: add a JL Audio or switch to 2 Rythmic subs?
Have you tried the highpass in your E112? You just loop it in/out between the pre and amp. It will add some hiss for sure as JL’s electronics are very questionable but it should be night and day better. I would highpass at 60hz. If you like the so...
Kef and McIntosh
Personally I find the Kef/Mac combo pretty dull (not rolled off just lacking air). Specifically in the highs. I am a MC462 owner so no hate here. If you like Kef and like Mac they are probably fine together. But I could think of a lot of speakers ...
JBL 4367 = Sleep Denervation
Mijostin, I am using two JL E112 highpassed. I have not settled on a crossover point. It seems fine anywhere between 40hz and 80hz. Normally I use about 60hz for most speakers but I am finding the 4367 has more texture and tone between 40-60hz th...
JBL 4367 = Sleep Denervation
Markd51,   I have not tried the 8 ohm tap yet but maybe I should. On my other speakers if chose a tap above the lower ohm limit it tends to make them brighter. Using the lower tap does reduce power but power is not an issue. I will have to look ...
JBL 4367 = Sleep Denervation
McIntosh MC462 (4 ohm tap). I am also high passing from a pair of JL subs right around 45hz. I have the HF trim at -0.5db and the UHF trim at -1.0db. I find these trim settings greatly effect the sound from warm to bright if you want it. I believ...
