Why Mac Mini Over Slim Systems Products?
The Mac Mini will give you longer longevity than a Slim device. As you pointed out, having a fully functional computer will give you far more options that a 'network appliance'. Along with all the various software options you have to choose from.U...
Best cartridge for modded Technics 1200
Of all the cartridges I have tried so far, and I've only had a few so far, the Clearaudio Maestro is clearly the winner on headphones so far. I have not used my big rig since summer started, only been enjoying through headphones this summer. But th...
Dcs Verona vs Scarlatti master clock
Suchtan, I think you made a wise choice with the BB. I too have wondered if the higher priced clocks can affect a noticeable difference from the BigBen. I don't think too many people have actually compared A/B different digital clocks. Now if $$$ i...
Dcs Verona vs Scarlatti master clock
I did an A/B comparison of the Apogee BigBen to and RME word clock on a RME-Audio PC sound card and could hear no difference.I would love to hear feedback on the BigBen and upwards in price?
Cartridge alignment channel balance measurements?
Very interesting. Dan_ed, I have always wondered how to get around the surface noise issue, seems like surface noise alone adds quite a bit of 'variability' to the signal from what I have seen. A bandpass filter makes perfect sense. But I don't kn...
Cartridge alignment channel balance measurements?
Tim, excellent thread, thank you.
Cartridge alignment channel balance measurements?
I have been playing with this PureVinyl software in combination with using the HiFi-News test record. There is a real time Input Balance measurement that gives you a +/- 0.00 measurement. So this would be a differential offset of channel balance.I...

Cartridge alignment channel balance measurements?
Azimuth alignment is what I meant to say. I have been adjusting the azimuth adjustment on my headshell seeing the impact on channel balance using the various test tracks on the Hi-FiNews Analogue Test LP. Sorry for my confusion.
WAV vs. AIFF
Between WAV and AIFF I think it's more a matter of which platform you wish to use - WAV for Windows or AIFF for MacOS. When I had a media server I built for Windows, I used WAV. Now that I use a Mac I'm using AIFF. Both support lossless compressio...
analog vs. digital better ? or just different
Johnnyb53 I agree with you completely. It has been a lot of fun getting my Technics set up. Every significant modification/upgrade reveals more resolution and texture. Something that remains fixed in a digital recording.I'm recording my records at...
analog vs. digital better ? or just different
Jrw40, my Stereophile subscription ended and I was happy about it. I think what pushed me over the edge with Stereophile was the recent issue where they spent pages and pages defending M.F. and his invitation to the million dollar contest of speak...
analog vs. digital better ? or just different
I've gone down the road of digital, listening to various digital rigs over the years and working on my own. I even went so far as to A/B digital clocks to quantify if I *could* hear a difference between 2 different digital clocks. At the time I ha...
Sumiko Headshell on SL1210
For the azimuth hex screw, I've found that it can be quite sticky when trying to tighten it down, which becomes more problematic because the when you loosen the hex screw to make an adjustment, and then tighten it down. When you go to tighten the ...
Cartridge & Headshell for SL1210 M5G $399
I think Nagaoka is the manufacturer for the headshell you are talking about. I just opened up a Nagaoka MP-50 today, and reading their documentation was interesting. They are an OEM manufacturer as well for 'other' companies providing various comp...
