Why do Tube Amps sound more romantic v SS amps
I don't know where you get your tube amps from, there are tube amps from decades ago still running strong. Once solid state amp give up they take out circuit boards sometimes and you can't get those boards anymore because they are proprietary. Tub...
Open Baffle Experience
I find that my apogee duetta 2 sounded best about 7' off the wall.
So, I listened to a $1Million Dollar System
Sounds like the dealer may have set the system up the way they liked it, mellow. I heard systems like this at Axpona sound terrible one year, and then sound great the next year.
Another dedicated circuit question
I don't know where all these ground loops are coming from with multiple dedicated circuits for your audio system, I have six dedicated lines of which I'm using four currently and do not have any ground loop problems.
Why do Tube Amps sound more romantic v SS amps
Everyone always brings up the distortion profile of tube equipment, which is generally true but triodes are also more linear that solid state devices, with simple designs fewer parts count.

The only difference I see between the two other than the logo, is the more expensive ones might be closer to exact spec.
Advice on a tube tester
Tube testers aren't very accurate at measuring the life of a tube, so you may still get some returns if using a tube tester.
Which preamp to go with pass labs x150.8
@runwell  what is a top hifi system, if you are talking about systems at hifi shows of course you won't see that combo, most of the top amp manufacturers make their own preamps, so they are going to stick to the topology they know best, even if a ...
Nearly all manufacturers do not advertise/exhibit their product measurements? Why?
Verified by perpetual blind tests I presume? Not at all. I thought you all didn't believe in that.  I am just trying to fit in....   @Amir ASR this was not my post
Nearly all manufacturers do not advertise/exhibit their product measurements? Why?
Accuracy is a myth in audio playback, no system sounds like live unamplified music, so why not just use what you enjoy to listen to.
DACs that do well without a preamp
@soix  a DAC that uses transistors, or tubes for the output stage is not passive, it may not have gain like a preamp, but it's still has an active device for the output.

@xcool  I wonder if the socket saver fits a little tighter around the pins of the tube and fits tighter around the tube sockets on your preamp, that could be the difference.
At this level of high(er) end audio why not offer balanced connections?
So then I'm running a 5 meter RCA cable from my preamp to my amp, I compared the 5 meter RCA cable to a 1 meter RCA cable and didn't hear any difference.
Pleasurably better, not measurably better
No?  First, I don't believe that "accuracy" is really possible in a speaker/room combination outside of the original recording space, nor do I believe the engineers would have mixed to reproduce that space.  Next, if you look at the research unde...

I don't care what the measurements say, I care what my system can do in my room with my ears.
