"Bridge Over Trouble Water" sounds artificial
I have noticed this too — but the idea of trying different versions is a great one; same with the "getting used to a different sound" idea. I heard an old Joe Jackson track ("Steppin' Out") which sounded awful. Then, I heard a remastered version —...

Gotta love posters that just say no or good luck. I mean, really? Looking on US Audiomart, I see these candidates. Some of these have to be decent.Aerial Acoustics Model 5 Speakers $700.00 Vandersteen 2Ci Speakers and Stands $700.00 and many other...
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?)
@brownsfan Will sure let you know. The Orchid tube was all @decooney I just know how to take good advice.

@b_limo Someday, we'll speaker swap for a month? Hmmmm.
~$15K floorstanders: opinions sought
@wassaicwill -- You know, I think aesthetics are important. This is an object you'll live with and at your price point, you'll have many choices of things that will sound good. Why shouldn't it all come together -- the visual as well as the aural?...
~$15K floorstanders: opinions sought
FYI, OP -- if you get standard veneer, you have 30 day trial, otherwise, they're yours. I was not sure if I'd like them so I chose a standard veneer but some of the more exotic choices are stunners.

There is one other at about $15k, but this may really ring the bell for you: https://www.salksound.com/model.php?model=Exotica%203I just got a pair of bookshelves and the wood choices are incredible. Go play with the wood choosing tool  https://ww...
Atoll IN200SE Integrated Amplifier
Just to chime in -- after months of deciding, I got some tube amps -- Quicksilver Mono 60s and their linestage. Love them. But I still had a hankering for a SS amp. After looking for a while, I found someone selling an Atoll INT200 here in town, us...
Tannoy Stirlings on the way!
Very curious. They were highly recommended to me...though I couldn't get to hear them and went with something else.
Objective Studies?
As someone who just built a system, I decided to consult folks here. The smarter ones indicated that (above and beyond surge protection) it could make a sonic difference, but so much depends on (a) the electrical on that line, (b) at that breaker,...
Why the truth is not in them ??
One thing destructive of trust is needless careening into political posturing on an audio forum. We need politics free spaces where we can *share* interests.  Stick with audio, mc. Maybe share some new photos.

Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?)
@decooney You were the only one to suggest that a change of tube in my Orchid MHDT DAC might help -- and it has already. I ordered a TESLA 6CC42  ($24, Ebay) from Ukraine and it took a couple weeks to get to me but *right away* it took the edge of...
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?)
@decooney @brownsfan Thanks to you both. I had good guidance from both of you on different phases of the process. Invaluable.FWIW, I mentioned in my note to Jim Salk that I loved the speakers but there were moments that they could be a little brig...
What have you been working on in 2020?
Reigniting an old passion (which only took me as far as buying a mid-fi stereo) and pressing it into high gear, I’ve had a busy 2020:I’ve put together a system: speakers, amplifiers (tube), DAC, CD transport, cables, power elements. Every element ...
