What have you been working on in 2020?
Reigniting an old passion (which only took me as far as buying a mid-fi stereo) and pressing it into high gear, I’ve had a busy 2020:I’ve put together a system: speakers, amplifiers (tube), DAC, CD transport, cables, power elements. Every element ...
Speaker shootout update; aggressive treble eliminating some (fairly?)
@mapman Thank you. I felt it was owed.

@jtcf  Thanks -- it's been interesting for me to read the comments and theories about what might have been happening in my room, and all the other great speakers out there to try, somehow, someday.

@twoleftears et al.Update on speaker shootout: Salks win.I did extensive listening to all kinds of music, with many positionings of the speakers. There is no question that the Salks win, hands down.Besides having an estimable bass response (even f...

@cd318Thanks for your thoughtful post. I eliminated as much as I could and narrowed down to things which would not waste dealers' time, be something I could afford, and would best suit my amp and musical tastes.I've listened to music for most of m...

@helomech I think they’re very musical, with bass that easily rivaled the Focal 936’s, perhaps beat them for texture and control. They weren’t right for my room, for reasons described earlier.
Ever feel like a "low dollar" customer that your dealer doesn't think worth their time?
@denverfred  Now you've triggered an Agon discussion about whether it's worth paying more for an expensive, boutique "brain fuse" from an American maker or whether Chinese brain fuses are good enough. Not to mention whether said brain fuses can be...
Recommend speakers for Hegel H190
@aobscura The key for me is home trial. Crutchfield has Dynaudio, Revel speakers among others. 60 days home trial, and $20 to ship speakers back. (Not a typo.) I just tried out the Martin Logan 60's from Crutchfield without a hitch. Full refund mi...
MHDT Orchid or Audio Mirror/ pick one for me please
I strongly considered both and got the Orchid. Both can tube roll. Two further considerations:Orchid -- 1 year warranty, not US based but Linear Tube Audio sells them and can repair if necessary.Mirror -- 2 year warranty and made in US (Minnesota)...
Looking for a speaker cable with a relaxed sound.
Maybe your room needs a little bit of attention. Do you have a reflection point that needs to be dealt with?
I think some cables are just a little too expensive.

"Motions" were highly recommended for their AMT tweeter. Your hint makes no sense to me. What is "Elthos"? I'm finding it hard to grasp your point. Perhaps revise your comment to help?

@denverfred No worries. We Denverites stick together! And Paul Barton is in audio, so it's a pretty nice switcharoo.

Brief update: the Dyn Evoke 30s have zero hours on them so I've been breaking them in a bit. I'm also doing some analyses of my room using the REW software and the UMIK mic. I cannot treat the room, obviously, in any elaborate way, but I can perha...

By Paul Barton you mean Paul McGowan, I think. Agree with your comment. I'm in same region.
