Magnepan 1.7i Amp recommendations
@jjss49 I'm interested to hear you say this because I was considering Maggies for my tube amps recently but steered away because of the logic you're laying down. Question: do you think this applies to all Maggies and all tubes? I have 60wpc tubes ...
Think fast: What would you take?
+1 Nonoise. Good luck, OP. Nice to see you can keep your cool and your perspective. It's hot enough outside -- you don't need the fevered dreams of others to make things worse. None of us do.
Sub Question. One higher quality sub or two lesser quality? (Rythmik vs HSU)
When I was looking into a second sub, REL themselves told me that getting identical subs was important. Others here have agreed and disagreed with that view. Via Audioholics: "Ideally you should use identical subwoofers for the best overall perfor...
Are all Audiophiles masocists?
@douglas_schroeder I get bored without progress, and I love the challenge of advancing a rig continuously. I also thrill to hear a performance become more engrossing, emotionally fulfilling, over the years. There is absolutely nothing wrong with t...
Just installed a bluesound node 2i , quality not so good
+1 @jjss49 I went back and forth with my node from internal to external dac many, many times, on a variety of speakers. There is a difference that is unmistakable. That said, the internal dac isn't terrible and everyone has their own systems and t...
“BLOCK” Function?
I’ve learned a lot by responding only to posts or parts of posts which addressed the question or issue I’m investigating. Posts which do other things -- I just don’t react to. I "block" myself from reacting to irrelevant or obnoxious conduct. If y...
Never Owned a Tube Amp and Want Advice
FWIW, I have Quicksilver 60wpc monoblock tube amps and at first I thought I had to have high sensitivity speakers. I did try some at 92, 93 db and they had an easier time than speakers I tried at 87 and 88 db but I have to say I found that the Mon...
Node 2i VS Lumin D2
@calieng Did you try the Node via a good ladder DAC like the Denafrips? Not sure if you said that in your post.I have a Node and have compared it via (a) it's own dac, (b) an older Peachtree dac, (c) an MHDT Orchid Dac and (d) an Orchid dac with a...
How to select and pair a preamp and power amp?
Quicksilver Line stage preamp $1295 (new) would likely pair well with many Solid State amps. I've only paired it with an Atoll integrated (on bypass mode) but it sounds great.
Which Preamp.
I know you've posted a choice between two but I'll just mention that when I asked this question a while back, many suggested another in your price range: http://www.dehavillandhifi.com/UltraVerve-Preamplifier.htmI've never heard it but there was c...
For audio advice, which channels, if any, do you think are worthwhile on YouTube?
Hans B has a long career and genuine expertise. I also like him for his humility and independence from companies. He’s not a poseur or peacock.
Want to setup basic home audio system
Whatever you do, there are enormous bargains out there, used. The Music Room is a great source, but if you educate yourself a bit, you can likely get a good streamer, DAC, integrated, and speakers for $1k, though perhaps the DAC could just be buil...
For anyone who moved from tubes to solid state — a question
@krelldreams Thanks for sharing. You say you went "back to tubes" but the main amp you mention is a hybrid, no?
Are all Audiophiles masocists?
After years of just work and family, I’m glad to have a hobby again. The obsession factor helped pull me in and forced me to learn. Now that my system is assembled, I’m turning toward expanding my listening.Obsessing about hearing more and different...
It’s a pleasure.
Here are two related pleasures:(a) Putting on an old tune you loved a long time ago (e.g. The Who’s 5:15) only to find that it’s been remastered and is now in "ultra HD" and you’re simultaneously reminiscing AND hearing it like you never did befor...
