D'agostino amplifiers: where's the beef?
One can critique the price-to-value ratio of an expensive product on an audiophile forum, right? That’s not ad hominem; that’s what is supposed to happen on an audiophile forum. No need to defend rich people’s “right” to waste their money. They al...
Musical Fidelity, Hegel, Intoll amps suggestion?
Lots of Hegel dealers in the US compared with Atoll. Atoll has a nice history. Good luck!
Musical Fidelity, Hegel, Intoll amps suggestion?
I assume you mean the Atoll amps. I have the IN200 and it works really well as an amp, only, and delivers nice power. Dual mono power transformers in side. Very beefy. No experience with the others, but I can tell you that a tube preamp plus the A...
Dynaudio Special 40
FWIW, I've heard this is an especially difficult speaker to drive well. I know it's not all about wpc, but I have a suspicion that 85wpc will make it loud enough but won't make them sing.
Speakers suggestion help
Sticking within the choices you mention (which I presume what you want us to do), I think the room dimensions could matter a lot. If you have a sub, one of the Focals might conflict with your sub -- the Focal Electra 1038 BE. Figuring out which wi...
If a speaker stand is mass-loading, how much does it matter what they're made of?
Very tempted by Deer Creek Audio stuff, too. Simplicity.
If a speaker stand is mass-loading, how much does it matter what they're made of?
@twoleftears Chris from Kemala called me at home and we had a really nice conversation about this stand:http://customdesign.kemela.com/prod-pages/spk-fs106.phpThanks for the tip.

Thanks for the suggestion. One member on this forum suggested a fairly inexpensive way to make rollers with furniture cups and ball bearings which could decouple any number of things, including speakers. I'm kind of suspended in indecision at this...

@twoleftears Thanks! Quite an array of options!

@mesch The only issue is that the Pangea stands won't fit my speaker base very well. The 20" Pangea has a 6" x 9" steel top plate and my speaker has a 10" x 14" base. That's a lot hanging off there. The Skylan base could be custom sized.
Room size for hi end speakers. Too small??
You might look up some of my recent posts "hilde45"I think that I had a lot of trouble because of ceiling height.

Thanks @djones. I really do wish for a report. They’re on my short list. The Timbernation folks do similar stands, all wood, for a similar price. I know that "everything resonates" (and of course "everything matters", cough cough), but I like the ...

I’ll be curious. I balk a bit at paying hundreds for MDF. But perhaps the end product is worth it. It seems that D&D make a stand for your speaker, too.

@djones  I’m interested in your opinions. Didn’t you have a stand already?
Upgrade Question
I went with a transport so (a) the money paid for it would go just into those components and not (b) a DAC in the unit. I wanted a separate DAC because I imagined it would likely be better and it could evolve or change without affecting the reliab...
