First impressions of the Isoacoustic Gaia 1’s
Tried both Gaia and Townsend, a set of springs under very large laminated wooden blocks sounds at least as good for about $100.
Caveat Emptor
Don't buy anything with Naim on it.  Even some past distributors will warn you. This issue is not about Chinese vs anybody.  I have Vincent gear and they have been excellent.
most beautiful (looking) speakers
Harbeth, look like a child made them in your garage, Klipsch look like they are sold in charity stores, Zu have lovely cabinets but drivers look stolen from the old cinema on the corner, cheap B+W look cheap, expensive ones look expensive, Focal l...
Amir and Blind Testing
In a recent test Amir 'beheaded' a product (i.e. lowest rating) because it had an unacceptable 0.003% distortion. Can anyone can hear 0.003% distortion, are any speakers possible of even 0.03% distortion? What about 0.3% distortion? I have since l...
Why should audiophile deniers be allowed on an audiophile forum?
These days we really do often buy products unseen and unheard.  When doing this my exception is always negative and I expect to send it back.  Sometimes I don't because it is better than my expectation.  Who says expectation bias is always one way?
When You Buy The Whole Album And Only Like One Song.
Introducing the Hardline According to Terence Trent D'Arby?
2nd systems- who’s got one?
Agree with others here the second system is often an older first system, in my case a Naim Unitilite and Audio Physic Yarra 2's.
Has the cost of HiFi gotten a bit too much?
Good hi fi has never been cheaper, esoteric hi fi has never been more expensive. It's the way all consumer goods are going, good practical clothes dirt cheap, brand name trainers made of the same material, in the same factory by the same people ar...
Speaker relative efficiency/sensitivity when using a high pass filter
I have a Minidsp on order to use as a digital crossover, my Audio Physic Sitara 25 speakers are ported (89db / 36 Hz specification). I use with stereo subwoofers and Vincent SA31MK / SP331MK amplification.  I want to reduce the load on the power a...
Better R2R DAC Recommendation?
Whilst you mention the Streambox2 you do not mention the rest of your system.  I have a Denifrips Ares II and have no intention of changing.  I have tried other, perhaps better, DACs in my system that , to me, made no meaningful difference. Howeve...
Electric cars will ruin late night listening?
In developed countries your car will be electric and it will power your own house at  times of low renewable output or high demand. Once electric cars represent 30% of sales their price will ensure that IC engined vehicles will be for enthusiasts ...
Are Harbeth the only warm and euphonic speakers in town ?
Harbeth, dull as dishwater, Wharfedale Linton's even worse.
Amir and Blind Testing
Amir appears believe we all suffer from expectation bias.  One  problem how does that explain when the expectation is for things to sound no better or worse but they don't?
McIntosh -- good for show, not for sound, says dealer
Seriously I just was looking on line here in Oz, McIntosh are selling a clock, no audio, just a clock for over $4000, that's like USD$3000. I think that says everything you need to know about their pricing.  This thing probably cost $50 to make in...
To Buy or to DIY, here is my question
Only ever heard one pair of good DIY speakers, built by a design lecturer at uni who had worked for Lowther Acoustics and was a skilled woodworker.  I have wasted too many hours listening to rank awful DIY speakers to ever consider wasting my mone...
