Why the hate for mcintosh amps?
McIntosh hifi í just underwhelming especially considering it's price.
I’m in trouble
Classic with Epos, try Naim, definitely not Cyrus, too bright.
How to get into high end digital? (Feeding a DAC)
Not really trying to be contentious however a cheap DAC sounds like a cheap DAC, a cheap CD player sounds like a cheap CD player, a cheap turntable sounds like a cheap turntable. Unfortunately some expensive ones do too? But not all.
Advice on dedicated room
Sound insulation behind a drywall will essentially do nothing for the room acoustics. It will make elsewhere in the house quieter. If that is your aim then good. Double thickness drywall will help a little inside the room, ensure the two surfaces ...
Biggest "bang for the buck" audio gear you have owned(in your history)?
So many great bits of hifi, but because I loved them and had them for 20 years my choice is a pair of Royd Doublets bought for AUD$1000 in 1997, finally sold them in 2017 for AUD$450. Thats AUD$27.50 a year, 50 cents a week?
Klipsch Forte ii too bright, or is it my room ?
For many Klipsch speakers are all much too bright and voices sound like megaphones.
Referent point
Been listening to Klipsch speakers for over 50 years, and each new one I keep trying, however they still sound awful to me. Bright to the point of painful and voices sound like megaphones on football field. Not nearly a reference for a great many ...
Upgrade my CD player or futile effort?
I have a Denifrips Aries 2 and am exceptionally happy with its performance. So much so I have ceased using my CA Blu Ray / SACD as a transport and bought an Audiolab 6000 CDT. A big improvement. I previously owned the Marantz CD 6004 and my new se...
Klipsch Forte ii too bright, or is it my room ?
In over 40 years I have found every Klipsch speaker painful in every environment with every piece of equipment.
Cables that measure the same but (seem?) to sound different
There are obviously, at least, 2 diverse opinions here, and various attempts at subjective and objective evidence.  On the one hand people 'say' they can hear differences but most often when tested this appears not to be the case. Expert listeners...
My Experience With Tekton
A common response appears to be that $5000 speakers cannot sound as good as $30,000 speakers. I have heard some really awful $30,000 speakers. Several Klipsch speakers at more than $15,000 sounded truly awful, worse than awful, Harbeth's at $20,00...
Learning to Listen: Neurological Evidence
Really believe the main trick to enjoy hifi is to enjoy it for itself, it is not live music and never will be. As a reviewer said recently all hifi is fake just find the fake you like.
Helping a friend build a new system
Unison Research S2K with Proac Response Dr2. $7000 on the nose. ProAc are 88.5 dB which is good for bookshelf speakers. UR S2K is very good with them and smooth enough to love jazz and blues.
Audio deals you bought that seem impossible for the price?
I bought a Vincent SA31 pre amplifier at half price in a sale, never had Vincent before but needed a cheap pre amp. It was originally around AUD$1000 got it for AUD$550, great bargain. Got it home fired it up and noticed it was a little different ...
Should I got full tubes or stick with hybrid amps?
Really surprised I traded in my Marantz because it was way too bright, now have Vincent SA31MK/ SP331MK, occasionally turn the treble up?
