Rel Does Not Recomment Isolation Stands
Regarding REL subs what they say for their , or any down firing sub, makes sense.  But not for other subs perhaps?  Re Harbeth, there are two approaches to vibration / energy make something heavy so it doesn't vibrate, make it light so it does.  H...
Thoughts on having 2 different sized subs in same room
I have tried several combinations of different subs, currently using 2 x Definitive Technology SC 4000's.  By far the best control and sound yet.
Headphones vs full range speakers
Headphones IMO are nothing approaching lifelike, even the most expensive.  There is simply the wrong soundstage and imaging. Like most I use my 3 pairs on the train, in bed or when the rest of the house is asleep.
Replacement for current speakers suggestions
At 68 I seem to fit this question and profile. I have my hearing checked regularly for my job, it is still excellent with a little loss in the +15k region.  However your hearing does change and perhaps your preferences in music and sound. I now pl...
Different R2R DACs
I bought a Denafrips Ares 2 after sampling the Chord Cutest ( as good but not better IMO), the Mytech Liberty (seemed slow and slightly muddy) and the Burston Conductor ( just not my cup of tea). I have generally found my other chip based dacs a l...
Class A amplifier alternative?
I use a Vincent SP331 MK, 150 watts but with first 10 in class A.  You will almost never use more than 10 watts.  Great amplifier.
$39K for the Linn Klimax DAC/streamer?
If I tell friends I spent $20,000 on a hifi they would say I am mad.
What song have you played the most?
Diamond Life - Sade
Horn speakers are really bright?
I have listened to Klipsch speakers since 1975, I have found everyone painfully bright.
Have you moved away from full range to standmount speakers + subs?
Of course there may be an explanation of why standmounts have a better soundstage than floor mounts, one is dollars, the other is how they are used. Invariably we listen to speakers at a price point, thus standmounts at x$ will probably sound bett...
A Newcomer to Digital Looking to Upgrade My Dac, Tubes? Ideas?
If you already have tubes in the sequence more tubes may not be a best solution.  I use Denafrips Ares2 in a hybrid pre / power setup. Tried many DAC's including Chord Qutest, Burston Conductor and others. Didn't see my system improve with more ex...
An interesting demonstration
Not really sure she's "proves" anything except the cognitive link between our senses. If you now know what the hidden words are and play it again without reading them, do you hear them.  I don't. Merely them being suggested is not enough to hear t...
Whether to do anything about the limitations of our ears
I recent years  I have developed a hearing "defect"  becoming very sensitive to sibilance. I changed a beautiful pair of speakers because they were too bright yet most others I have tried sound too dull. Each person will hear sound differently to ...
New speaker cables recommendations sought
Worked part time a store some years ago.  With time on my hands I set up 4 identical CD players to the same system. Only difference the interconnects between the amp and CD players. No-one could tell the difference ( in sound quality) between $50 ...
Better CD Sound: The Search
If you already have a modern suitable dac buy a CD Transport.  I bought a Audiolab 6000 CDT and the Cambridge Audio CXC is also good. Tested both in store and in my system against CD players at least twice as expensive. Both were better IMO.
