Recommendations for HiFi Listening Room The two biggest factors are 1. The Room (you already have that). 2,. Speakers. Matching speakers to a room is not easy, after 50 years I have determined that the easiest way in a very difficult room, like mine, is to buy speakers you like the soun...
How good does my system have to be to realize an improvement with cables? A straight 10% is an over simplification, many years ago working in a hifi store, we wired up systems with varying cost cables, we all agreed that once above $30 a metre for speaker cable improvement was harder to detect than difference. For inte...
What speakers have you mistakenly let go and then later repurchased? Road Doublets, owned for nearly 20 years, sold to a friend, bought back, given to son, swapped back. Eventually replaced with Audio Physic Sitara 25's. Must have bought 6 pairs to replace the Royd's, Monitor Audio, Kef, B+W, Yamaha, even Sonab OA...
Weak Link in chain as I upgrade from mid-fi? A solution for my system that is in a small room with exceedingly terrible bass problems was 2 subwoofers. The Arcam has pre amp out so an easy connection. I must say I absolutely hated the next suggestion however I tried it and it changes everyth...

Indentical measurments = Identical performance? asvjerry, I doubt your proposition could be proven right or wrong. If I knew something was 0.0000000003% THD does that mean I can hear it, does it mean I believe I can hear it, or does it mean my expectation is I can't hear it. As probably the amp...
Am I Better Off With Limited Low Frequency Speaker In A Small Room? My room is smaller than yours, I had massive ( walls shaking furniture vibrating, speakers in sympathetic coupling) bass problems until I added two subwoofers. I now use these two with Audio Physic floor standers. The problems have disappeared and...
Indentical measurments = Identical performance? ASR recently gave a DAC a junk rating because of 1 reading, distortion at 0.003%. Can anyone hear distortion at 0.003%, no. Tube amps with 0.5% distortion are considered good, turntables would be consider at least OK, speakers are often stated as ...
tube pre & ss amp integrated I use Vincent pre / power amplifiers, class A up to 10 watts, however they are no longer available. The hybrid works for me, Unison Research do some nice ones, better than Mac's, IMO.
Lumin U2 Mini The Lindemann Limetree Bridge is better.
A rookie with 10K, seeking advise I really wanted to buy the Wharfedale Linton's for my second system with a Naim Unitilite. I tried them at a dealer who did both, they sounded 'ordinary' with everything I tried, no sparkle, no depth, poor soundstage. My 2 systems both have Audio...
Need recommendations for a streamer I use a Lindemann Limetree Bridge. It is excellent. Solid as a rock, very good sound quality. Outputs are Coax/ Toslink only. It drives a Denafrips Ares 2 then Tube Hybrid Vincent pre/ power amps.
Why Purchase A CD Player or Transport ? Another CDT 6000 user. I find its sound quality is excellent. I tried Tidal for several years it was very good. However I was really paying to hear music which 95% of the time I already had on CD.
What is your take on high efficient speakers vs. low efficient speakers? It's rather like comparing cars, once accompanied a friend with his 5 litre V8 to a track day. He was whopped all day by a couple of 1.8 litre Lotus, on a straight track the Lotus loses on proper race track there the V8 loses. Which experience do ...
Does a DAC need a large/strong power supply? Many hifi designers believe you are essentially listening to a power supply that is merely controlled and regulated by your pre and power amps? |
