Upgrade path direction I believe you will find Lintons (very) boring after Klipsch, PS I really don't like horn speakers especially Klipsch, the Omen Dirty Weekends are really not bad, I have heard them with PrimaLuna valves perform well, still a little bright for me, b...
Help me choose speakers If using 2 subwoofers don't worry about a rear port, just block them off.
Help me choose speakers I have the Naim Unitilite, somewhat similar to the Star. My local dealer with whom I have a great relationship has let me try them with most of the Focal Range and the Special Forty. I find all the Focal's far too bright and the Forty to be anythi...
Interesting ASR review of small GR Research speaker kit Testing any desktop speaker with a full range tone at 96dB is frankly insane.
Interesting ASR review of small GR Research speaker kit Having no interest in this product I have not looked at the review. On this product ASR's opinion may be valid, or not. Amir however appears to be of the opinion that due to his correlation between testing results and actual sound then his testing...
What are we objectivists missing? Being an Audiophile is primarily about 2 things, your equipment and how it sounds. Each person is unique, what you hear is determined by your ears and your brain, what you enjoy is determined by your preferences and experience. I have frequently s...
What are we objectivists missing? Playing golf recently I won a ball for longest drive, it caused great debate, was it red or orange? About 50% of other golfers round the table said each colour, you cannot tell someone what they see and you cannot tell someone what they hear.
What are we objectivists missing? Measurements. A well known measurements based reviewer lambasted a product for one singular measurement, in the report no mention was made of listening whatsoever to the product. The product measured 0.003% distortion. You cannot hear 0.003% disto...
Speaker/equipment placement I have a fairly small dedicated music room so speakers were chosen for a small room, Audio Physic Sitara 25, and are placed almost exactly to the manufacturers recommendation. Even then the room has bass problems so I use 2 small subwoofers for ba...
Cd transport If you have a DAC then paying for another one could be needless expense. I use a Audiolab CDT 6000, sounds very nice via Denafrips Ares 2. Of course if your DAC needs up grade buy a CD player with digital in for other sources.
Soundstage and image height, does it exist? The brain always fills in information and creates illusions that are not real. Close your eyes and listen to vocals, they invariably appear to be dead centre, but there is no speaker there, its an illusion created in your brain, you hear two separ...
What's the heaviest speaker you've ever owned? What's the tallest? Some years ago I bought Sony's largest, most expensive, range topping subwoofer, about the size of a wardrobe. Part of their 'esoteric' range at the time. It was absolutely terrible. The only time it sounded fine when when it was switched off.
Best streamer for a returning audio guy As an older audio nut I sympathise, some old equipment is still fine, some is not. I had a pair of Royd Doublet speakers for 20 years, I must have bought 8 pairs as replacements but none lasted until my recent 2 year old Audio Physic Sitara 25's....
Streaming vs Physical Media Similar set up to some here Audiolab CDT 6000, Denafrips Ares 2, onto Vincent Hybrid pre / power to Audio Physic Sitara 25's. Recent change to Lindemann Limetree after much experimentation with Lumin, Bluesound and Aurender leaves me unable to say...
Is There A Big Difference Between Subwoofers From Different Manufacturers Whilst agreeing with many viewpoints some are contradictory, worst sub I ever had was a massive and expensive Sony, completely useless for music simply dominated everything at even the lowest volume. That heaviest is best is in my experience a fal... |
