Bookshelf Fern & Roby makes high-performance speakers designed specifically for these situations. https://www.fernandroby.com/products/details/the-ash-cube-speakers The drivers used in this model are very well-regarded.
Magnepan 1.7 i - Amp suggestions Regarding the Van Alstine 400R--tried that with the 1.7's years ago and sent it back. On paper it looked to be a great match but in listening, I way preferred a Marantz integrated! Was never able to relax and let the music wash over me in a way ...
Target bias dictated by amp or by tube? The sound quality will likely be inferior at the lower bias. Bias plays a huge role in an amp's sonic character. Try both but I bet you'll prefer the higher setting.
Time to buy a class D amp? a bit bright and somehow dry, lacking warmness That description applies to every class D amp I’ve heard, even those with tubes on the input stage. As for ecological concerns, at low power levels, where most amps operate during most listening, even...
General question about tube preamps and gain It might help to mention the model of preamp and tube types it uses.
Magnepan 1.7 i - Amp suggestions Agree that you should avoid anything Class D unless you can audition it first. None are good enough to gamble on anyway. The best ones merely match a decent class AB amp. The Halo Integrated is a decent match for the 1.7s but a Yamaha A-S2100 woul...
Am I the only one who doesn’t love Harbeth P3esr? The LS-50s are indeed the warmer speaker, especially if their tweeters are below ear height with little or zero toe-in. Their tweeters also have less metallic signature than the Harbeth aluminum IME. IDK that I'd consider the P3s bright once broke...
Electric feedback from water circulation pump I see. You stated "hum" in your OP, thus I figured it was transformer hum coming through your speakers. Yeah, a DC blocker won't do anything for hiss.
Electric feedback from water circulation pump A DC blocker may be all you need. The AVA Humdinger works best.
Anybody in Touch w Andy at Vintage Tube0 It seems this happens occasionally.
Broken hearted...magnepan and vandersteen I've owned two of the entry models from each brand - same level of components, same room. The 1Cis are comparable to the 1.7is in overall value, but they have some different strengths. I like both of these more than the 2CE Sig IIs. Oddly, I find ...
Does your system hate you when you ignore her? You might also consider the potential differences in the rooms temp and humidity levels which does affect a system's performance in measurable ways.
Standmount speakers. I have $5000. These:https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis9e8b2-stirling-broadcast-ls3-6-monitors The midrange and imaging is some of the best at any price. Pair them with high quality Sound Anchor Stands and you'll still be under budget with an incredible end-g...
Considering Harbeth C 7ES-3 If your listening space is at least 200 ft sq, jump on this incredible deal: https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis9e8b2-stirling-broadcast-ls3-6-monitors This is a steal of a price for one of the best speakers I've heard anywhere. The midrange i...
Purchased new speakers, need amp suggestion Something with balls. The Aria 936 is not as efficient as the specs might have you believe. I'd look for a class AB amp of at least 75watts/ch RMS power. $1K is quite limiting as far as new amps go, so you might be better off with a pre-owned amp.... |
