Recommendations for Vintage Speakers
Take for example the Altec A7 Voice of the Theatre loudspeakers, which you can get a beautifully restored pair for around $3500 USD from Gary Fischer, and then have Pete Rigglebuild a pair of his inexpensive Hiraga-style crossovers for them (aroun...
Recommendations for Vintage Speakers
Depends upon your ROOM more than anything else (except your wallet, of course!). Try a small set of newer Magneplanars and see what you think about the clarity of listening to the actual recorded music instead of the "horny" sound of horns or the...
Recommendations for Vintage Speakers
I looked up the Time Windows. Apparently opinions on the DCM Time Windows are mixed. Steve owned Bose 501s at the time and still wasn't impressed.https://youtu.be/PCQUgsoTBUc
Recommendations for Vintage Speakers
Look for a pair of New Large Advents, particularly the ones with the "bull-nose" cabinets. They’re a versatile speaker and sound good with any genre. I recently compared them back-to-back with some new Vandersteen 2Ce Sig IIs ($3K/pair) and return...
Speaker Help?
I disagree with the others. These are $4K/pair speakers. That's considered peasant fodder to many on this forum but that doesn't mean what you have is curbside junk.If you have an interest in hi-fi, resurrecting these speakers could be a great bar...

Again the topic of weight of amps
Get a "feather-weight" 55 pounder, it will still sound better than any cheap chip amp, and will have a BOM far more commensurate with the price.
Equipment Rack Between Speakers...Good or Bad
The important consideration is whether the rack is flush with the speakers, or behind them. IME, if the rack is at least a foot or more behind the plane of the baffles, there won’t be much if any detriment. The big exception is panel speakers, the...
Replacement for Vandersteen 2ce
I recently had a go with Vandy 2CE Sig IIs. Despite many attempts with various setup configurations, I just didn’t find them nearly as impressive as expected. It might be that 100watt/ch amps don’t provide enough juice, idk, but I couldn’t get the...
Klipsch Forte IIs, which amp?
Get a 20 to 50 watt tube amp. Given your budget restrictions, a little Cayin A50T or similar integrated will likely sound much better with your Forte IIs than any entry-level SS separates.
What DB level is best for judging audio equipment?
Smartphone meters are rubbish. Most cannot register SPLs above 90db and they tend to display a level that is 5 -10db lower than actual c-weighted SPL. The problem is you cannot judge the accuracy of your smartphone mic and app without referencing ...
Basic integrated amp for $700-$900
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F173780100200 It's a little above your budget, however this amp smokes the Sphinx V2, and many others in the $1K category. It's not even close. I owned both for a fair...
I wonder why......
4) Several responses supported the "there is no point to aftermarket cords" theory. Whether true or not, that was not the point of my original question. That may not be the point of your question, however, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s the t...
I wonder why......
It's because electronics manufacturers tend to know how electronics work, unlike most audiophiles.
