Streamer question
You can also buy an Intel NUC or a similar computer and install Roon on it. That would be similar to the systems you mentioned but possibly cheaper or with better performance. https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/roon-optimized-core-kit
Has anyone heard the SAT XD1
@grooves Nice of you to stop by!I also think you have earned a lot of trust but that is, as usual, up to each one of us to decide. I don't even own a turntable but often enjoy your reviews anyway. I definitely put things on my short list based on ...
Considering an integrated
Just to add a more rare alternative,  Moonriver 404 ref. Should work well with Zu but lacks headphone amp. You need to buy a separate.https://www.stereophile.com/content/moonriver-404-reference-integrated-amplifier
CD vs FLAC stored on flash drive vs streaming
If you with flash drives include hard drives my guess is that they sound the best. Less risk for error correction and timing problems. SSDs are really fast and proven to work.
The new Raidho’s vs the new Borressen’s ?
I've only heard the Borresen 05 and that was in a small room at a show. Still great speakers that I would love to hear more. They also look fantastic in real life. If they and Raidho sounds equally good I would go for Borresen just for the looks.
So Hard to Decide on an Amp
+1 @speakermasterI think you should get a preamp also. Or an integrated. Those exists in prices up to $30k or so.And I think you should ask this question in the amp section. You will probably get a lot of answers.I like the Schiit Ragnarok. If you...
Holographic Soundstage ?
I also think the speakers are the best thing to change for a more holographic sound. I like Fyne so F501SP would for me be something to check out but there sre many good speakers.
Pure analog system with high power
I just changed from a Rega Brio to Schiit Ragnarok 2. It is a HUGE upgrade, you will not be dissapointed. Of course may not be as good as a much more expensive Pass amp. It has pretty low power, though. About 60W into 8 ohm.The good news is that y...
Stereophile's 2021 products of the year
+1 @8th-note
When does one know it's time to upgrade?
I you're satisfied with your system and its sound then you don't have to change anything. If you feel you want something new you will have to try different things like different brands or types of speakers or amps and see if something suits you. Th...
MQA is for chumps
I can just add that Qobuz is not even available where I live, hence I use Tidal. It does sound a lot better than Spotify. When Spotify starts with high rez music I will probably switch to that.
Sub-$1250 DAC w/ built-in Headphone Amp
Forgot to say, if you plan to mainly listen with headphones you may want to upgrade those before buying a better dac + amp. Something like the Focal Elex, Beyer dt1990, Beyer Amiron Home or the new Drop hd8xx.Pair this with whatever dac+amp you bu...
Amp for Sonus Faber Sonetto ii- 1500 or less
I really like my Ragnarok and it is said to output 100W into 4ohms. They sell for $1500 new unless you want to have a DAC card in it (I would go for that if you can afford it).
Holo Audio May DAC
Wow you are replacing a $25k DAC with a $5k DAC.  I definitely want to read the comparison!  The May is on my list as well, but I have a modded Gustard U20, so definitely expect an improvement. @achipo I would also like to read the comparison. ...
Low gain dac!
Isn't 4.3V out on RCA from the dac against the normal specs/standards?I thought they were supposed to be 2V on single ended outputs and 4V on balanced. I think some DACs have higher output when they also contain a volume control, the idea is that ...
