West Coast Jazz? I'd alos add Jimmy Giuffre's late fifties trio recordings with Jim Hall. Really good stuff.
Sharp-Nine Records - My New Favorite Jazz Label I just received Tardo Hammer playing Tad Dameron tunes...every piano recording should sound like this.
Sharp-Nine Records - My New Favorite Jazz Label I've been buying through Amazon, if that helps.
West Coast Jazz? I would second Zoot Sims 'Hawthorne Nights' - a fantastic Pablo recording. He made a group of really great recordings on Pablo in the 1970's. The vinyl is usually cheap too.
How low is a piano? I believe dogs hear on the high end, not the low. High-pitched whistles and such.
How low is a piano? Very interesting responses folks. Thanks! Am I correct about the low bass string? I wasn't sure.
West Coast Jazz? Check out Shelly Manne and His Men Play Peter Gunn - the original version on the Contemporary label. Fantastic mid-sized combo playing Henri Mancini tunes that were written for the show. It's an early stereo recording that rivals anything you'd he...
Amp Power Conditioner or not? I've been listening to it for about three hours now and the improvement is NOT subtle. Is it possible that the PC was restricting the amount of juice getting to the amp? It just sounds cleaner. The CDP still sounds better through the conditioner, b...
Floyd-The Wall...which one? You definately want the one with 'Another Brick In The Wall'. If you haven't heard that song 10,000 times before, you'll really like it.
Jazz from 1957 to 1967 was the most definitive. There are lots of great recordings from this period, to be sure. Most of Monk's most important recordings, as well as Miles, Trane, the bulk of the great Blue Note and Impulse catalogs... sure. But it's too narrow a time frame. By limiting yoursel...
New Mose Allison Record - The Way of the World It may be available, but I didn't see it. I got a lowly cd.
Who Are the Best Young Lions of Jazz Today? Some of the old fogeys are making great records too. Ahmad Jamal's new album is fantastic!
Who Are the Best Young Lions of Jazz Today? Here's a few of my recent picks in no particular order:Marcus Strickland - Idiosyncracies (2009 Strick Music)Sam Yahel - Hometown (this is a fantastic record for both performance AND sound quality)(2009 Positone)ACT (Ben Wendeel, Harish Raghavan &...
Wynton - The Only Person in Jazz Who Matters? Wynton's sound - to me at least - always sounds academic and forced. Technically brilliant, but lacking spontaneity, and that includes much of his recent JALC work which sounds overly composed. Duke Ellington was brilliantly composed too, but Duke...
Wynton - The Only Person in Jazz Who Matters? I think I'd have to agree with Chashmal on this one. Wynton is ok, but not anywhere close to the "best". Just as music, IMHO, Branfords original albums are consistently more interesting and have been for decades. It seems there's a bit of a backla... |
