And the answer is, these speakers are fine with tubes. Better than fine, actually - really, really good. I just hooked up a Cary V12R in 50W triode and they sound terrific. Lots of detail, nice air around the instruments. An all around good combin...
What the heck is bias anyway?
Cary v12. Apparently you can use a meter, or just turn the screws until the lights come on. Seems easy enough.

So it's basically adjusting the current to the tube to make sure the appropriate amount of juice is getting in and out of it. Not too much, and not too little. I think I have it. Thanks Elizabeth!
840C as a DAC. What do I need
Although I suppose it might be more versatile, and potentially better sounding to run out of the computer.... anyone?
Great and well-recorded jazz on CD
Another sleeper - from 1957 is Shelly Manne and his men play Peter Gunn. It's all Henry Mancini tunes with a septet. It's a fantastic recording on the Contemporary Label. The title track has reached cliche status, but the rest of it is terrific. N...
Great and well-recorded jazz on CD

Big Blue Tenor Sax
Almost anything by Dexter Gordon. I'm especially partial to One Flight Up. If you can still find the Cisco vinyl reissue, grab it with both hands.
True Analog LPs versus Digital Recordings
You have to use a very, very powerful magnifying glass to look at the grooves. If you see 1s and 0s, then its digital.
CTI 40th Anniversary cd Collection
Those remastered albums are also available individually. The sound quality is excellent and there are extra tracks on some of the. Stanley Turentine's "Sugar" is really terrific.

i think the Ed Wiley came out in... what? 2005? I doubt it was issued on LP.

You can add pretty much anything by Harry Allen to this list.
