Speakers to hang on to for LIFE For 10 yrs I lived with a pair of active stats -- AudioExclusiv, a German product. The amps were an OTL design, with adjustable input gain. The electronic cross-over was also adjustable to +/-3db @ 30Hz/12kHz. The sound was beautiful: soundstage, ...
Best Speaker for 300B Generally speaking, extra sensitive speakers (92+ db): horn-loaded (see above), passive crossover-less (Triangle et alia). You may also consider performant satellite speaker/active sub combos (A-Physics Step, et alia). There are many offerings; ma...
Arthur Salvatore WoW comments?? Ok, I get the polite hint: you guys are expecting *me* to do the dirty, rig picking & storing, job. After all, Detlof lives just (1500 miles) round the corner from me... I'm happy to help.Kelly, I'm looking into suitable charters. I understand...
Arthur Salvatore WoW comments?? Katharina, LOL! Thanks for making my day brighter (it's day in these parts).Must get the poor guy out of the can...Kubla, I'm running out of butter... Pls tell me where Detlof's stashed whatever's left of his system. I'll use that as a down-paymen...
Arthur Salvatore WoW comments?? Thunders, how do you manage sleeping on your back with your back to the wall? :) Stereo, I bet you he's listening to Waits' "My Piano has Been Drinking"...
Arthur Salvatore WoW comments?? Everyone, this is getting serious. Detlof's slept through the whole week, occasionally pausing to say shit (SORRY, excrement) and con. I'm talking about his only lucid moments here... plus he wants to chuck his rig out of the window (without discl...
Celibidache on DG or EMI? Pls1, do you prefer Celi's Beeth. 9 to Furtwangler's Beireut version? (not the recording -- the performance).
Low powered SET w/ Virgos? Not an SET, but in similar vein: Virgos driven by a Pathos Twin Tower (a hybrid integrated). The sound was "bouncy" and homogenious, as I remember, with good dynamics. Am not sure of top end extension. Source was cd and listening was at a dealer's...
Arthur Salvatore WoW comments?? Kubla, is it OK to use the word "excrement"?
Arthur Salvatore WoW comments?? Have you all noticed that audio connoisseurs double up as connoisseurs of other goodies too, often of the alcoholic variety? Remember those "best of" threads for single malt, gin, beer, etc?Slawney, only 30k MINUS tax -- a steal! (R U sure the pri...
Monoblocks did not work Indeed that's strange! Is it something in the architecture? The following link treats bi-amping -- but may be helpful nevertheless: http://www.sound.au.com/bi-amp.htmI'm sure there is a very simple solution to great sound.Good luck!
Best professional TEST CD? To the above, I would add Chesky's "The Ultimate Demonstration Disc".
Best CD of Rachmaninoff's Third Piano C I can also recommend V. Horowitz/CSO/F Reiner for Rach 3 (RCA, 1951 recording). There is a later recording of Rach 3 with Horowitz/NYPO/Ormandy (RCA, 1978). I prefer the older version. I have both on vinyl, so cannot give the CD refs -- sorry.
Frequency ranges I took your word for it...
Frequency ranges Meta, you're getting me worried. Last time we spoke, you were pinpointing resolution imbalances over the 50kHz range..:) |
