Arthur Salvatore WoW comments?? Detlof, sorry I missed you on the bahn (I must have zipped past you in my Bugatti;~). Good to see you're back in action. I was ready to propose a rescue expedition.Cheers!
Naxos Bruckner Symphony Set Mega, interesting and thanks for recommending. A side question: have you heard Celibidache's Bruckner on EMI? If so, how does Tintner compare (or contrast)? Thanks!
Are you manufacturer's paying attention? Patmatt, you're asking for a clear "value proposition" from manufacturers. I agree. I think this is most pertinent when it comes to electronics and digital sources. IMO, we're getting products, but rarely, bang for the $, even in giga$ proposition...
Improving imaging Ditto, Rushton above. I would add, the electronics' driving power: does the power amp adequately drive yr speakers, does the pre adequately amplify the source sound. *If* this is not a recent phenomenon, as Rushton notes.Good luck!
The top ten reasons why..... Albertporter, it must be those exceptional sound-*waves* that continue to haunt you after your retreat...(Haven't listened to the aforementioned system... think I'll take Lorne's word for that.)Cheers!
Another blues great passes... "Sad, sad day..." to paraphrase M.Water. At home we always referred to J-L as "granddad" ("let's spin some granddad and boogie...").
AMC Tube Amplifiers I second Trelja's opinion.Cheers!
Confused By A Transport Upgrade Good for you, Gunbei! D-K, there *must* be someone selling these "guns" -- radio-shack, maybe? Indeed, they do have something (mine doesn't specify) and crackle when they meet static electricity.Cheers!
Sakura Systems OTA Cable Kit Interesting post, D-K. Thanks for info!
Close your eyes and hear the music ? Sean, Bob's just illustrating the sonic qualities of his system is: so good, it makes you want to love and create (your own music)... Bob, I hope you don't create home-music to a vinyl background: you know, that recurrent and distracting sound as ...
Playing back 78s? Where do I start? As Sd notes, the speed adjustment is *VERY* important. A friend has a large number of 78's some which reach 88rpm for a correct pitch! He uses a modified Goldmund and an old "Lenco" with pitch control and, ofcourse, the conical styli for 78.
Confused By A Transport Upgrade D-K: I use an "antistatic pistol" (the kind we used for LPs in the old times) on the casing and the cabling (including PCs) -- during system operation (low volume). But, my gear is ss: I would be wary of using the gun on the tubes during operation...
Best and Worst Product Names How about "Micromega DUO, CD3.1" (that's one product) and "CD3.1 pro" (or something, is another product--go figure) for confusion. Also never caught on to the charm of misspelling tactics practiced by certain British Cos (*k*lout, *k*airn, numeri*...
Confused By A Transport Upgrade Ditto, D-K on the static and regarding the 7/24 power on. With me however, the more beneficial results of power on have been with the DAC rather than the transport... Maybe there's a transport -- DAC mismatch. You'll know, playing with cables and ...
Stereophile's refusal to review more low Wellfed: there is a recent thread on high-endaudio. Copy: http://audiogo5.iserver.net/cgi-bin/fr.pl?htech&991207172&read&keyw&zzsalvatore If that fails, try a "Salvatore" search.Cheers! |
