Good-sounding audio components?
Wow. What a question. One many of us have spent thousands of hours on. In general, it sounds good. But that is so loaded. If I was starting off again. I would recommend listening to lots of high end systems and attend as much live acoustic music...
Suggestions for a digital cable.
My components sound best with very neutral high quality interconnects and AES sound better than SP/DIF in my system (shown under my ID). I prefer Transparent. I would have a look through used cables … typically selling for 50% list.

Opinions on speaker upgrade choices
You have a real dilemma. I recommend looking at it like this: The speakers are the most important choice in your system. Unless you have decades of experience under your belt then choosing without hearing is probably a bad idea. You may be happy…...
Does your "esoteric" taste in audio also exist in other "things" you own/consume?
OP,   Lots of similarities between wine and audio… but also cameras… particularly because they are analog to digital to analog converters. With the highly detailed sensitive eyes involved.   FYI: https://www.flickr.com/photos/jdflood/albums  ...
Power isolator versus need for a better Power supply
I owned a Sim Moon 650D DAC/CD player ($8.5K) and after a couple years added their separate power supply 820 ($8.5K)… to me totally worth it. The new power supply replaced the internal one. I quieted the output, enhanced resolution, improved sound...

Are there any more good multi format disc players out there?
Streaming is quickly replacing discs. There are still high quality players being manufactured… but if I had money to invest in digital… I would invest in streaming (DAC and Streamer). My streamer sounds better in most cases except when only red bo...
Best Type of Interconnect for Turntable?
It depends. I would get all your equipment. Set it up and listen to it for at least 300 - 400 hours before thinking about the interconnects. If you are getting a top notch table… then you have lots of interconnects laying around. Most of my equipm...

Does your "esoteric" taste in audio also exist in other "things" you own/consume?
Great question. For me absolutely. “Do or do not” could be my motto from long before Star Wars. I get great satisfaction in learning and honing… experiencing something: wine, bicycling, literature, music/audio, outdoor gear, photography. Fifty ye...
Would There be a Significant Difference
+1 for a great sounding tubed preamp. Makes a huge difference on the whole system. I recommend a used Audio Research, Conrad Johnson, or VAC. Spend the maximum you can and extend with it being used. The companies I refer to build true audiophile p...
