Soundsmith Strain Gage Cartridge system "Provided everything is set-up to the nth degree"Does this mean that one will want to use a standard cartridge when the physical quality of the record is less than perfect?
Soundsmith Strain Gage Cartridge system I had read the posts on AA and I appreciate seeing the information here as well.
Stand out phono stages Piedpiper,I guess it all depends on what each of us is looking for.I've never heard a full-range box speaker that didn't sound like I was listening to a stereo. To me, some sound like incredibly fantastic stereos and some sound like bad stereos bu...
Stand out phono stages Jtimothya,You mention the Atma-Sphere MP-1 and the Aesthetix IO.Have you had a chance to compare the two in your system?
Stand out phono stages I have to agree with Pedrillo, when it comes to speakers there are the MBL 101Es and then there is everything else. I haven't found this to be the case with any other component, however; just speakers.
External step-up transformer with Io or MP-1 Message received.
External step-up transformer with Io or MP-1 Thanks Ralph. My experience is that while you can get the overall setup to be quieter, ultimately you find that the phono is not as interesting as before- brighter, less bass impact, less transparentThese traits are what I would expect to hear from...

External step-up transformer with Io or MP-1 I realize that the Io, MP-1, and many, many other phonostages have enough gain to work with low-output MC cartridges.I'm not concerned with what is technically possible or with what should sound better in theory; I'd like to know what people have ...
External step-up transformer with Io or MP-1 I'm not sure I want to do this either. I had no intention of trying it until I read some very positive reviews of a few SUTs and talked to a few people who use them even though they too have sufficient gain in their phonostages.
Aesthetix IO Sig V 2nd power supply & Lamm LP2 del This is a little off topic but has anyone compared the Aesthetix IO Signature to the phonostage in the Atma-Sphere MP-1 mkIII?
Reference DACS: An overall perspective I know this question is off topic but since I used to post to this thread I know that there are lots of people here that are very knowledgeable about all things digital.I'd like your help finding a budget CD player. I'm looking for a used, one-box...
Exotic turntables. Eye candy Thanks Albert.
Exotic turntables. Eye candy Good luck with the project!I'm still doing lots of reading and listening in order to find a new table.
Exotic turntables. Eye candy Albert,Do you feel that any of your projects with direct drives or idlers could surpass the sound that you get from your belt-driven Walker table? |
