Class "A" sound, as related to Stereophile. I also want to make one comment about Stereophile. I like their electronic reviews much more than their speakers. They have some really variable quality reviews and biases that often make me shake my head. At least John Atkinson has stopped taking...
Class "A" sound, as related to Stereophile. Just a little to add about custom speakers. I DO recommend them from reputable makers. There are a lot of very nice speaker systems made of unbelievably good drivers. You can get as involved as you'd like. If you are like me, you'll design every...
Phase plug materials for B&W 803D/diamond I wouldn't touch it. Either sell them, add digital EQ such as DiracLive before your DAC or leave them alone. Once you start hacking them you won't stop until you will end up with entirely different speakers.
List of albums that will still be popular 50 years from now... 1 Perl Jam album. Which doesn't matter because they all sound the same.
Components I would have died for when I was a wee pup An all Revox or Tandberg set up with Snell A/IIIs and the room to put them in. :)
Proton 1100 Pre-amp and 1200 Amp I know almost no one believe me, but I was trying to be helpful. :) My point was to suggest keeping them to build a second system where you spend time, like in front of your PC, or garage, or whatnot. They are also getting old, and those electroly...
Best car audio, Burmester? highly disapointed Yep, I had an Audi A4 with the Bose system. Took the A4 with B&O as a loaner. Distinct B&O sound. while there was a more extended treble, it was also exaggerated in the lower treble and there was no adjustment possible (despite so many con...
Can I convert stereo to mono for a phono input It remains a little odd to me that Phonograph cartridges which are inherently balanced devices, don't have XLR outputs.
Can I convert stereo to mono for a phono input Ops! You are right. You need the maximum AC voltage!! :) Same connection. My bad. Best,Erik
Can I convert stereo to mono for a phono input OI should also point out that when doing azimuth alignments in other contexts, 0 may actually be impossible due to some noise or impossibly fine misalignment. The goal is to get as close to 0 as possible.
Can I convert stereo to mono for a phono input @mb1audio they're not the same. They are out of phase, so when added perfectly should be 0. If one channel is louder than another, the AC output will be greater than zero. Tricky thing but it works. :) Best,Erik
Can I convert stereo to mono for a phono input Just use a multimeter. Measure the AC voltage across L and R. I’m assuming the test signal is < 1 kHz? Attach one lead to L center pin and one to R center pin (after preamp) and adjust until AC voltage is minimal.
Proton 1100 Pre-amp and 1200 Amp I like to keep a second "system" near my PC to use for music and multi-media. Your units may be overkill for this though. :) Best,Erik
DAC for CD transport On budget, the Parasound ZDac is suprisingly good sounding. For Redbook, I'd stick to DAC's within the last 3 years. There are several that make CD's sound really good. Schiit, Mytek and others. Best,Erik
What are the limits of room correction/ treatments ? YES! Room treatment fist, EQ/Room correction second. GIK Acoustics, great advice and highest value products. Room treament enables EQ, especially in the bass. Best,Erik |
