Voltage regulator in the power chain I saw a review on that voltage regulator. It's fine, but really coarse. If you don't need it, I'd take it out of the system. I'm a little surprised you don't also have mechanical hum from it. :) It seems to have only 3 states: Boost 15V, buck 15V,...
Explain to me dsd @kalali I think most people use a variety of ways to get music. The biggest reason for buying in addition to subscribing, which I do, is to have the highest quality possible. Most streaming services provide heavy compression. Tidal's best resoluti...
Sub woofer GIK Acoustics has very good value, and give great advice. I'd talk to them, they have a request page you can upload photographs of your space to and drawings and they will help you within your budget. Best,Erik
Sub woofer How about room acoustics? :) That's really the bigger issue. If buying new, I'd buy a Hsu sub for $1k and spend the remaining $1k on room acoustics.
Doubling a Set of Speaker Cables So make yourselves happy, but it's quite possible that doubling speaker cables is also doubling cable capacitance, and I'm not sure about inductance. Anyone who wants to measure this realatively cheaply may wish to acquire a Dayton DATS V2. Fairly...
Music Server format? By the way, you can build your own linux music server (minus DAC) for around $650 for a 2TB system. Using Logitech Media Server and Squeezelite you can get iPad/Android support as well. I use it with a DSD capable DAC and play PCM and DSD just fi...
Surround speaker upgrade Hey,So different pro's have different capabilities. Some let you set the crossover point differently for different speakers, some do not. That's fine. Yes, processors MUST let you set distance and volume independently. The power difference isn't ...
Surround speaker upgrade I am not going to suggest you upgrade to other Focals, that’s for sure. :) How are you configuring the surrounds though? I only have really 2 full range speakers, and the rest are satellites, but I can cross them over fairly well at 80 Hz. My main...
Surround speaker upgrade I should also point out that manufacturers have a vested interest in di/bi-polar surrounds. Having twice the drivers they often cost twice as much. Fortunately most buyers felt they were gimmicky too and most of these have gone the way of "smell-o...
Surround speaker upgrade Hi Norm,The whole bi/dipole thing was a gimmick to try to make up for the differences in a living room compared to a theater. In a theater you usually have 1 pair of surrounds per side, plus rear surrounds. Also, in a theater surround speakers are...
Replacement for Matrix 803 S2 @stereo5 Then I must blame the dealer’s setup for the GE. What I heard were ear drills, and I honestly thought the dealer didn’t see me as a serious customer. I wasn’t there to buy speakers, I was there to audition the NAD M31 or 51? The DAC. Forg...
Music Server format? WAV and AIFF take the most space, so I tend to avoid it. FLAC and ALAC however are fairly well compressed, so easier to store and put on a portable as is. :) Honest to god, if your music player sounds different if it plays WAV or FLAC, change it. ...
CEDIA 2016 That's fabulous @calvinj I'm glad you like it. :) I've never had a bad experience with a Parasound, though there's been a product here or there I wish was priced differently. :) Best,Erik
Help Id speakers Take a picture and post it on DIYAudio's multi way forums, I'm sure some one would help you.
Let's see or discuss your desktop speakers! +1 for AKG’s K series, but the difference between a solid headphone amp and mediocre is striking with them. They are not as amp friendly as I’d like, but not as bad as some IEM's either. |
