Any News on MQA Lately?
Well, I know the answer about sound quality already. :) If I have to look for an "improvement" with a microscope and tweezers it's not worth it to me. :) Remember Dolby A, B and C? That was worth paying money for. Differences were clear to anyone....
Question about DSD DACs
There IS DSD over S/PDIF, commonly called DoP, but I dont' know who supports it. It is not a downgrade, as the data is still DSD, but it is bandwidth limited. If you want to play super DSD files (whatever the current term is) you'll need USB. Best...
Is it worth upgrading my power conditioner to Shunyata?
I would encourage you to try out a Furman unit with their active noise cancelling technology, LiFT. Before any of that, you should have your room acoustics sorted. :) A better investment. Best,Erik
Question about DSD DACs
I do all my DSD via USB. :) I have a dozen or less DSD albums and 10 of them are downloads. Best,Erik
XLR to RCA interconnect. Does mixed connectors provide less noise compared RCA to RCA?
There are possible changes either way, but not enough to spend a weekend trying to figure out which is which. :) Your ideal (though not often something you can hear) is XLR to XLR. One reason to go TO an XLR at the amp is when the XLR inputs have ...
DEXA Neutrino ultra low jitter master clock?
Also, the Dexa Neutron Star design is aging. There may be a number of modern oscillator upgrades which perform as well or better with less parts. I'm no expert, I've just poked around a little, but for the price I'd keep looking. Having said that,...
DEXA Neutrino ultra low jitter master clock?
I am pretty sure it would.... but man, that is an old transport now. Better to sell it to someone who wants to use it with it's matching DAC than to start upgrading it, IMHO. There  must be a number of very good and reasonably priced transports to...
Any News on MQA Lately?
I’m sorry Tomcy, your mixing up a few things. MQA does in fact require the use the apodizing filter. What MQA adds is decoding of the high resolution data as well as their claims to time domain fixes. MQA attempts to compress 384k data (in a lossy...
DEXA Neutrino ultra low jitter master clock?
Um, so this is JUST a transport? You use it with an external DAC? If you use it with the SF DAC and the I2S interface, you actually need to put the clock on the DAC, not the transport. :)
Any News on MQA Lately?
PS Audio said they were not at all impressed by it. Benchmark has a long blog post on the matter and just how convoluted the entire process really is. Meh, the Brooklyn is a very good dac with or without MQA, but I was looking forward to finding y...
BDP 103D unable to view streaming sites like Youtube, Pandora, Film Fresh etc in Home Menu
Oppo has great technical support and a vibrant support community. :) Go there! https://www.oppodigital.com/support.aspx
DEXA Neutrino ultra low jitter master clock?
Hi Lak! Doesn't that unit uniquely have an exposed I2S interface that can be used to slave the transport to the DAC or another clock? Best,Erik
Any News on MQA Lately?
Hi @bradf I used a Mytek Brooklyn. Yes, MQA was properly identified when played. My sources came from 2l.noIn my case I comapred 96/24 to MQA and I honestly could hear no difference at all. Not a bad thing considering MQA is a lossy and complicate...
What SS preamp compares to a tube preamp
Ayre or Parasound JC. :) I use the P7 myself, and I would NOT call it tube-like at all....but a good multi channel pre. :-) Best,Erik
Any News on MQA Lately?
Tidal sale is over, Apple was just conducting competitive research to see if they posed a threat to iTunes. It didn't so they  had no reason to buy it. Tidal hasn't done anything on MQA since then. Stereophile ran an article online a month or so a...
