MQA ? Pono? What's better than the CD?
See the link I just posted. :) Enjoy.
MQA ? Pono? What's better than the CD?
That makes it sound a lot better, I take it back, MQA rocks.... er, not. :) https://www.meridian-audio.com/news-events/meridian-audio-launches-mqa-master-quality-authenticated/
recommend DAC for mirror image audio .2p (preamp) with JBL 4344
Schiit is in your price range and warm sounding. Just above that is the Mytek Brooklyn. Lots of people raving about the Ayre Codex too.
Downsizing
@fast_mick In your case I strongly suggest you get an EQ. :) I mean, i would suggest bass traps, but you don't have any room for them. Get an EQ and clip off the peaks of the sub, this will at least let you bring the level up some what, plus the E...
Downsizing
If you are willing to DIY them, these are fantastic, small and under $500. The tweeter is IMO much better than the Focal. Massive motor keeps it linear, extended and flat past 20k. http://speakermakersjourney.blogspot.com/2016/02/the-lm-1-bookshel...
MQA ? Pono? What's better than the CD?
Hi Jim!As a music storage format, FLAC predates Pono by a few years. :) But I rip or download FLAC unless I'm buying DSD.  Also I do like the sound of the Pono portable player, but given it's limitations I ended up going with Fiio and with an extr...
Anybody here terminate DH Labs BL-1 cable?
I don’t know why people are getting confused. It’s exactly the same as with a speaker or AC plug. The circuit, to be a circuit, is a loop. Try cutting off the neutral wire on an AC plug and see how well your amp plays then. :) I think part of the ...
Subwoofer options for Magnepan with crossover betwen pre and amp?
The lower you go, the more difficult things get. I can think of a dozen subs that would sound well if properly integrated. That means room treatment, crossover, and EQ. If you want the simplest, go with a relatively small sub, with a good auto-EQ ...
Using tube amp with electrostatic speakers.
@bdp24 From my conversations with Roger, it’s based on frequency response. Most curvilinears at the time were not very flat without significant EQ. Roger's stuff is flatter, with much better dynamic range. Earlier stuff did not have very well matc...
Using tube amp with electrostatic speakers.
Sanders have some of the smoothest frequency response and best imaging in the lot. HOWEVER, the sweet spot is 1mm wide. You'll love it, but as soon as you move around it's merely a good speaker. In the sweet spot it's spectacular. I have no experi...
Stereophile & Mytek Brooklyn - Better than it Measures
I just took delivery of an Astron with variable voltage and current. I ordered it from AstronDistributors.com and they were well priced and fast. UPS ground was not too bad. Astron has a rock solid output. Meter says 12V, actual output is closer t...
Using tube amp with electrostatic speakers.
@tomcy6 An "autoformer" describes the construction of the output transformer, while "output transformer" describes it's function.  In this case they describe the same part of the amplifier. In an autoformer there is no secondary winding, and there...
Corner loading/left louder ?
GIK Acoustics. Best,Erik
Help, my system sounds lifeless!
Another option for you, try out the LM-1 kit. I just put this up on my desk in my bedroom. Unlike my main speakers, the LM-1 works VERY well in tight spaces.  You get detail and air even when they are crowded. http://speakermakersjourney.blogspot....
Anybody here terminate DH Labs BL-1 cable?
Um, assuming there are no ground loops, and perhaps no other ground path, then the shield would absolutely become part of the circuit. Consider devices without a ground pin, otherwise yes, current would be distributed exactly as stated above. If I...
