Cheater plug safety
@cleeds I in this case I believe you are mistaken. :) One 20A circuit may feed multpile 15A receptacles. For those who don’t know, the 20 A receptacles look just like a 15A but with one leg T shaped, allowing for either 15A (normal) or 20A plugs. ...
Phono interconnects acting as antenna, adding noise to system
Again, need to know if this problem exists with short cables, and exactly how they are constructed. There are two types of shield: Braided and foil. Foil is 100% coverage, braided around 80% I believe. All my cables are 2 conductors plus shield, n...
White Noise
Does this the noise happen only when the HT receiver is on? If so, it's that your receiver has too much noise. Best,Erik
Cheater plug safety
Hi Jetter!I would be a little careful retrofitting. Designers tried a lot of things before 3 prong outlets became standard and added all sorts of odd solutions to attach the case to the AC line. I would probably leave yours alone. I'm not an exper...
Transformer Noise
Most welcome! Erik

Jricci,But it doesn't happen if you use a short cable? Erik

I just noticed that the Coincident statement line stage does in fact include balanced outputs built in. One last thing, running audio cables in metal conduits can roll off the highs due to capacitive coupling.

@reubent Check out my blog post on ground loops. :) Cable TV often causes that. http://pqltd.blogspot.com/2016/11/quick-safe-and-easy-fixes-for-ground.htmlJricci,Let’s assume it really is EMI/RFI that you are hearing, and not a ground loop issue. ...
Transformer Noise
If it's mechanical, it may indicate you have DC on the line, often caused by light dimmers or PC power supplies. If it's coming through the speakers, check out my blog page:http://pqltd.blogspot.com/2016/11/quick-safe-and-easy-fixes-for-ground.html
Cheater plug safety
I've been meaning to put together a blog post about this, please find my latest here, which discusses a range of problems and inexpensive solutions!http://pqltd.blogspot.com/2016/11/quick-safe-and-easy-fixes-for-ground.html
Cheater plug safety
kijanki, The Ebtech Hum X is the only possibly safe cheater plug I know of. It lifts the ground unless the ground gets to a few volts, then it closes it, restoring the function of the safety ground:http://amzn.to/2fIvyM7 The signal shield shoul...
kef 104/2 or Thiel 2.3
The Jim Thiel era Thiels have a treble that can easily do wonders or go bad. The difference seems to be if you listen to a lot of vinyl and/or use tubes. Then it may be heavenly for you. If you are all digital with SS gear, avoid it. Another set o...
Cheater plug safety
There is a little confusion in what "lifting a ground" means. It’s perfectly safe to lift the signal ground. That is, the ground associated with RCA or XLR cables and plugs. Pro gear or devices with XLR inputs often provide this feature. It’s a ve...
Why so underwhelmed by Revel F208 audition???
I'm afraid that I too was not bowled over by the F208s, though the salesperson tried to tell me they had the most natural sounding horns ever, I felt they sounded like the sax player used Tupperware for reeds. An exaggerated plastic like sound whi...
How does high-pass filter requirement affect system decisions?
I'm not sure it affects choices so much as dynamic range. Since bass signals soak up most of the voltage swing, eliminating that from the amp's output means all of the voltage/power swing is available for the mid and treble. Also, the amp acts mor...
