Retooling the system upward?? What speakers would be a major upgrade over GET model 7's?
Hi @sunnyjimI would focus on the mid-treble. If you fell in love with the treble of them, then  you should focus on speakers that have those qualities but are even better. I would think that if you really like the GE speakers, and want to step up ...
Marantz and Stereophile?
@264win I’m no Stereophile fanboy, but at the end of the day they only have so much space. After they are done reviewing $130,000 speakers 5 of their readers can listen to and 1 might buy, or the hearing aids they sing the praises for, there’s onl...
Know of a "Dirt Cheap" tweak?
Mass. Adding weight to woofer enclosures may help definition. Bricks on top, whatever you have handy. :) Especially good for 2 and 2.5 ways with the woofers closer to the tweeter than the floor.
Are there used/mint balanced pre-amp with a few unblanced inputs under $2000??
@timlub It was a very long time ago, back when Roger Sanders still owned InnerSound, and before he began Sanders Sound. We demoed the Coda preamp with the Electrostatic Amp, also made by Coda. They were in two different leagues I'm afraid. I'm gla...
Are there used/mint balanced pre-amp with a few unblanced inputs under $2000??
@timlub That I would really like to hear. The last time I heard a Coda preamp, ages and ages ago, it was flat and lifeless sounding. Best,Erik
Options for full-featured music servers/streamers?
Almost forgot, haven't tried it yet, but there's even a new plugin that supports Chromecast. It lets you use any chromecast in the house as a music player controlled by your LMS server, and therefore your iphone/android app. :) Erik
Options for full-featured music servers/streamers?
Couple of notes. You can always share your music library, manage with Windoze or OSX software, then re-index. Pretty damn fast. Also, I believe there IS software to rip from a playlist. There are a ton of plugins. You can always create a virtual m...

> Does Rhythmbox tag the ripped content with the album metadata? Yes, as does Amarok. > Usually Rhythmbox but there are also dedicated tagging tools, as well as sometimes if I get really desperate I'll write a Perl script. > What are yo...
Super Integrated Solutions for Streaming with App Control
Hi Def! The issue with EQ was it was so over-hyped and so cheaply done in the past that it gained a terrible reputation. Now audiophiles like to spend hundreds on cables to do what a simple tone control would do. I'd say build a streamer out of a ...
Monitor Audio for classical music
Having measured a pair of smaller Radius speakers, and lived with Silver 6s, they Radius are quite neutral. The ceramic/metal composite tweeters are very smooth and do not audibly ring unlike say all of Focal’s metal tweeters, nor do they have the...
Two channel home theater speaker integration
Ahhh. You may actually be better off just adding a pair of HT speakers. :) Do you use a sub for movies? If so, small satellites will fix all of this. :) Best,Erik
CD ripping
wav, flac, alac should sound identical, but flac and alac are probably smaller than wav.  With flac  you can trade compression speed for compression levels, to a point, so you can get some control over how much space and how much time you spend ri...
Speakers with warm treble and good bass
Sounds like you may want to go British. Monitor Audio is a good place to start.  Their metal domes are a lot easier to get along with, IMHO. Whatever resonance they may have is far out of band. I published a kit that you would also really like, fr...
Two channel home theater speaker integration
Don't do that unless both sets of amps have relays on the outputs. Otherwise, even when off, the amplifier outputs can conduct, with a potentially amp destroying low impedance. The best way to integrate 2 channel with home theater is to route your...

@monte_15 Sorry I missed the part where you wanted a built-in DAC.  While a Linux PC would come with that, it's not what I would recommend.  Still, you can build the PC for $500-$600 well equipped, leaving you room to find your favorite USB DAC. B...
