Considering Bricasti and Lampizator
I've never heard the Bricasti but always intrigued by it. Anyone who would like to send me one for a 10 year review.... :D :D I would strongly recommend you listen to the current Mytek DACs, with support for DSD256 (yeay!!), PCM 384 and MQA (meh!)...
What are the smallest speakers that are clean and flat down to 20hz?
I would consider looking at the DIY site from Troels Gravesen. Lots of his kits show the speaker response and the room response, followed by the final outcome.  You could find it illuminating. http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/Diy_Loudspeaker_Projects....
Something just isn't there
Room treatment is always important. Contact GIK acoustics. They have a variety of pretty panels including Art Panels you can have custom printed. One thing to check, sit about 2' in front of your speakers. I know it's not how you listen, just try ...
Clarity Cap CMR Impressions
Hey @dgarretson Question, do you have any expectations for how the CMR vs. MR compare in terms of ESR? I'm wondering how close they are to drop-in replacements for each other so I can gauge if I'll need to make adjustments to a tweeter filter.Than...
What are the smallest speakers that are clean and flat down to 20hz?
FYI, there’s a rule of thumb, that for any given driver, going down an octave causes 10x the linear cone travel. So, if you attempt 20 Hz with a 6" driver you’ll need it to move a foot back and forth or something ridiculous like that. :) This is w...
What are the smallest speakers that are clean and flat down to 20hz?
Hi Mapman,Clean and flat = big driver. Best I've had is a 15" Hsu which was flat to 16 Hz after acoustic treatments and EQ. However, it's really important to understand, below 400 Hz or so, your room becomes a very important part of "clean and fla...
Clarity Cap CMR Impressions
@dmhenley Wouldn't that be nice? I wish there was. I did speak to Norbert Mundorf at a show, promoting the 30th Anniversay edition speaker kits. He was pretty convinced capacitors changed sound quality when new, but we never got into any "why's" a...
Clarity Cap CMR Impressions
Great to hear. :) Wait for the end of the first 100 hours though. :) Lots of caps and electronics sound extra dynamic at first and mellow out. Best,Erik
How do I power my 800D(3)s
Congrats.  First, invest in room acoustics. GIK Acoustics has great advice and products. Next, tubes man. These are definitely speakers I'd pair with Tubes a-la AR, CJ or if SS, Ayre.
Periodic noise
Power off any othere dvices in the room you can. Routers, switches, thermostats (if WiFi enabled), cable TV, satellite receivers, etc as well as light switches, wall-wart chargers, anything at all that draws electricity.See if this helps any. Next...
HDCD rescue - it's possible, but man...
Following on the link, above, I found a very interesting section. It is true that PM equipment was pretty popular in recording and mastering studios. I quoteth the results:Much of the time, the engineers turned all HDCD features off, but the HDCD ...
HDCD rescue - it's possible, but man...
Hi @dtc I found a very complete discussion of it here:http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=High_Definition_Compatible_Digital#Regarding_the_Playback...According to that, the transient filters were part of the specification, but were never li...
monitors to sub tuning, using high pass output on subwoofer back to amp?
The biggest problem is really noise. 12' is starting to get long for RCA cables, and potentially very pricey too! If you could use an active crossover instead, such as from Bryston,  which you could put on top of your receiver you would be in bett...
HDCD rescue - it's possible, but man...
Thanks George! When I scanned all of my library I assumed only 44/16 would be HDCD encoded. Now maybe I will look through my hi rez files too.Best,Erik
AVR 300 Powers up, 8 seconds, powers off
One hack I apply to routers is to find a 5V suppy somewhere and attach a fan. You'd be surprised how helpful a half dollar sized mini fan can be> :)
