Bass and treble levels
I think it's important to note what we are sensitive to as well. I like tone controls, but my current pre's tone controls definitely dull the sound, even when set to neutral. Sadly, the design and parts quality of tone controls has really diminish...
DIY - Two kits using similar tweeter to Tekton
@gawdbless I do read the posts though, but can no way entertain any form of DIY. That’s a real shame, because I think every audiophile needs to at least once in their hobby build their own speaker pair. You’d learn a huge amount viscerally instea...
SPEAKERS, SPEAKERS AND MORE SPEAKERS.. BUT NEED BASS.?
How about some JBL monitors? :)
SPEAKERS, SPEAKERS AND MORE SPEAKERS.. BUT NEED BASS.?
Not sure how big you are looking for If you are a bass freak and want to feel like it's live, maybe you need some horns?

I was just thinking, if we want to talk about the benefits of the ESL as a driver, maybe we shouldn't compare them to box speakers, but dipoles and line sources instead. That is a much more fair comparison of the ESL's quality than in a convention...

I was a little too absolute: the perception of speed comes from the dispersion alone. I should have said "mostly" from the controlled dispersion pattern. And honestly, overall, ESL's are some of the most room friendly speakers on earth. Pairing th...

Not the kits, but the individual drivers are pretty well regarded. :) I'd suggest you ask in DIY forums, you'll find people with direct experience. Best,E
Bass and treble levels
It is a personal preference. The speakers and room affect this as does the recording a great deal. Also, listening levels. If you listen at low / background levels tuning up the bass and treble a little can help you pick up the missing details.The...

I mean this sincerely:I simply do not know how  you can sell a speaker at retail for less than 10x the wholesale driver cost. Wholesale can be up to half of retail pricing, and it's even cheaper if you make your own drivers. Focal produced some ex...
Class D is just Dandy!
@celander Oh, I don't mind that. I'm not hear to convert anyone. But I think it shows a great deal of class when you speak your peace and then leave the subject alone for those who are contributing in a positive fashion. Best,Erik

@bdp24 Erik, there is a reason loudspeaker designers still work hard to get theirs to sound as natural (lifelike timbres, especially vocals) as the 1957 Quad ESL.Can you point out specific evidence or is this your personal assumption? Limitations...
Headphones? I could use your experience/thoughts.
What will you use to play them and what kind of music do you like?
Class D is just Dandy!
No matter how nicely you ask George to start his own nay-sayer’s thread, he’s always going to share his impressive collection of articles about how planes can’t fly. No sir, they are too heavy and completely unreliable. Plus, you will fall off the...

Roger Modjeski says that’s because of the extremely low moving mass of the Mylar used in ESL drivers. It's not just mass, but the amount of force you can exert against the mass and, critically, self-damping. ESL's suck at the last bit of this,...
Digital integrated alternatives to SET tube system
PS - I LIKE The D 3020! A great deal. :) I just don't expect it to match to speakers the same way.
