I like my music systems like I like my baths ... Thanks, @boxer12 ! Truth is I could not afford these speakers if I had to buy from the store. I'm fortunate enough to have a background in audio engineering and that the tools I needed have plummeted in price and availability to the "average joe."...
I like my music systems like I like my baths ... Thanks for the kind words, @uberwaltz
On hearing and listening. I design my speakers and set up my room so I don’t have to hear. I’m not trying to be obtuse, but relaxing my brain so I am no longer being analytical is my goal. I want to use the stereo to transport me, like being at the top of a mountain range,...
High value, giant killer speakers? Fritz. Very high quality parts, unique crossovers with minimalist parts. I've seen Wilson and Gamut put similar quality parts in, achieve less and charge more.
Tri-amp 3 way speakers, still worth if using a multi-channel amp? (HiFI Stereo) In the case of effectively bi-wiring, so long as your original speaker was a match for your amp, you are good. For instance, say you have a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 6's. Nominally rated for 4 Ohms. Your amp, rated for 4 Ohm speakers, will be f...
Why HiFi manufacturers don't make active crossovers anymore? 1 - If you put a high pass (HP) filter in front of an amp, it no longer has to play bass.Bass is responsible for most of the amplitude variations in a signal.Amplifiers are all voltage limited. That is, they can play up to +- n VSay n is 20 Volts....
Tri-amp 3 way speakers, still worth if using a multi-channel amp? (HiFI Stereo) Hi cosmicjazzSo keep in mind that those connectors are there purely for convenience. Besides the switch, there is no extra circuitry. You don't get more of an amplifier by using A+B. So it is up to you to ensure that the impedance of the A and B s...
Why HiFi manufacturers don't make active crossovers anymore? Hey Cosmic, You are right. That design stinks. He's using multiple amps, but lacks active crossovers. He's missing a number of benefits going fully active: - Limited voltage swing to each amp, increasing dynamic of the entire system- Enhanced effi...
KLE Innovations Technical Paper A - I like KLE, and missed most of the A'gon promotionsB - Pure silver makes a terrible connector, and as a wire can be too delicate to use.
Why HiFi manufacturers don't make active crossovers anymore? Actual speaker crossovers are complicated. If you are going to replace a speaker's internal crossover with an external you are going to have replicate the entire transfer function, not just the crossover location and slopes. DSP makes this a lot e...
Audio Research LS12 Um, did you try the Audio Research Website? I did a search for LS 12 here and it popped right up.https://audioresearch.com/download/
speaker impeadance question What huge spike?? That's very typical for a speaker with a 2 way crossover. What I'm impressed with is how flat the rest of the speaker impedance curve is.
Amp problem I wonder if your RCA’s developed a short? Turn everything off, replace with a diff. RCA set, and turn on in correct order:Sources, preamp, wait 10 seconds, then amp.
Ears hurt when listening after changing speakers Hi @nkonor Sorry about your diagnosis. Two things which may help you is listening with cans and really good room acousutics. For reasons too long to post, both can reduce mental fatigue a great deal, your brain no longer attempts to spend energy s...
Bargain Basement, Giant Killing DACs for PC Audio I don't know about giant killers, but the Parasound Z was always under the radar for most people. |
