Different systems playing same music simultaneously
I think you can do this with a number of streamers. I can do it with the now end of life Logitech Squeezebox, so I imagine it is a common feature. Best,E
Need help with a hooking up a sub.
Have you considered a Parasound P7 preamp? It would solve almost all of your problems and allow you to simplify everything.
Voltage Modification on Japanese units
Depends on the kit. With a lot of kit, the same transformer could be used for 100 V and 220 V depending on the wiring. This was a money/time saving thing for the manufacturer. Better to order 1 transformer that could do both than 2 different model...
Would switching amps make a big difference?
A strong solid state amp is always a good idea to try with ESLs A combination I've heard, and others often praise, is a tube pre with a beefy SS amp. Something that can deliver lots of current at high frequencies. The Sanders / Coda amps are good ...
Help me put together a $1000 (give or take) headphone rig -- new or used
Really recoomend you listen to the Ayre Codex, among the best sounding output stages I've ever heard. I haven't heard the Codex, but it's the same headphone amp as the Pono and that was one of the all time greats. Also really liked the high end Wo...
Speaker toe in
So this doesn't make the soundstage laterally narrower?? If you mean the quality of the perceived image, this is a good trade-off. Ideally, you'd be listening in a much wider room, allowing you to point the tweeters straight ahead, and you could ...
Why do YOU love Vinyl/or hate vinyl
Vinyl is projected to surpass CD in sales this year. I believe this is due to the revenue generated by streaming causing declining CD sales, so as a purchased media, yeah, I can see this, but in terms of what people listen to, streaming/digital w...
USB vs SPDIF, which sounds better?
The ground loop issues of a USB cable can be mitigated by using an unpowered version (data only) of the USB cable. Several high end companies offer this sort of cable (Sablon Audio, for example). Most standalone DAC's don't take power from the ...
Am I asking for too much??
One nice change since JA left I hope we can all agree on is that the photography is no longer wall to wall. Apparently he used to insist that all the room pictures be speaker to speaker, which left a lot of dead space. If you think about it, most ...
Speaker toe in
It won't take the room completely out of the equation, but it may reduce the intensity of the side wall reflections. Also, many speakers have tweeters which just sound better off-axis, instead of pointed directly at you. Toeing in so they cross in...
Am I asking for too much??
Hey @stereo5 I just read my own typing. To be clear, these are just my own personal opinions. Most important is to find reviewers who listen like you do, and for you to buy what you like, regardless of what anyone else does. It's a hobby, but we a...
Am I asking for too much??
stereo5 : JA's speaker reviews created the current High End Sound in the US. It's a very specific signature which he'd approve or not, and it is not neutral. In addition, he really didn't know very much about speaker design, which is odd since he ...
Am I asking for too much??
Hey @stereo5 I go through this regularly. Kal is the only writer at Stereophile I take seriously. You are free to like whomever you like. Best,E
Need compact end of life audio system to shoehorn into a corner of a compact living space
Not sure if it is in your budget, but I might suggest an Ayre EX-8, integrated with built in DAC along with some custom speakers from Fritz.Let him know you need actual bookshelf speakers, not stand mounts, and he can design you a pair of sealed s...
Am I asking for too much??
Besides measurements, when it comes to reviews I only read the British magazines. TAS is among the worst in the US, and Stereophile has had the agenda of being a speaker king maker I had no intention of going along with.
