How much is "LOUD" still a reference point for some?
I think this is a really good point. Don't audition speakers louder than you will listen to them.  You'll get a different presentation. Listen to speakers at your normal listening levels. Use tone controls to adjust if you need to.Be well,E
How does this make sense, any sense? Any sense at all??
Why would you pay 38 grand when you can get the same category for 1500? Why I say? Independent of Stereophile's rankings, I ask myself this all the time.  We are too easily swayed by  price as being a determinant of quality. It is, but only som...
How does this make sense, any sense? Any sense at all??
Stereophile has consistently exaggerated wildly the acoustic properties of the LS50. This is just one manifestation of a particularly regrettable and much larger trend. I haven't heard this particular speaker, but as for trends, yes, absolute...
Headset for Zoom
So the link I sent before is for the only closed headset I see, but they all have noise-cancelling mics, so if she's good with an open back Sennheiser, this is cheaper:https://amzn.to/3abcBcz
Headset for Zoom
I have not tried this model, but it has been on my wish list for a while:https://amzn.to/3dcyZUZ
Headset for Zoom
Let me know too.  I need it for tele conferencing, and what puts me off the most (in addition to the costs) are the reliability ratings. Not for Sennheiser specifically, but for all of them. I would love to find a wireless set that worked well.
Vivaldi, played badly, is the worst classical music on earth
Brecon Baroque is on Tidal, yeay. :)
Beware of NAD M3 Fire Hazard
but even if a shorted rectifier allowed AC on the cap without shorting out the power transformer's winding, downstream caps might be just fine as resistors are in the circuit that could have limited current. Yeah, but that pic man, it shows s...
Question on how DAC’s work...
The streamer (not the DAC) may partially unfold MQA, which is to 96/24, and send this decompressed signal down stream to a DAC. Roon, for instance, does this. This is a great feature for me, since that allows me to do some subtle room correction ...
Question on how DAC’s work...
What I mean is, don't buy on MQA.Buy the dac in your price range which gives you the best sound presentation. Dynamics, bass, extension, smoothness, imaging.  Whatever qualities you want, buy on that. Don't buy a DAC you feel so-so about because i...
Question on how DAC’s work...
I'm on the "i don't think MQA is better" camp. AFAIK, you'll get a 96k/24 bit stream from MQA sources, which is still higher than before. I'm also in another weird camp: "Modern DACs don't benefit so much from high resolution data." So, honestly, ...
Anyone else grateful that they got hooked on this crazy addiction
I used to think I was addicted to audio gear. Went to therapy, did an honest self-inventory. I’m not addicted to audio. I’m addicted to cheap USB cables. I’m not really sure who I am anymore.
Stuck at home? Make a kit!!
The thing to be careful of is the idea that what you built is some of the best out there. True, but on the other hand, you will never learn as much by buying as you do building, and the value of experience is priceless, even if you do make a f...
Can finding my Maggies "sweet spot" contribute to increased resolution?
Or, correspondingly, room acoustic treatment.
Why is There Not More Consolidation in Audio?
High End Audio has, in my mind, always been seeded by the DIYer. The innovator. The team in a garage with an idea and a passion. Also, they are emotional and financial masochists who will continue to brave the HE market regardless of outcome.
