Surge protector vs wall debate for amps I would be really curious to know what you hear. Personally, in apartment living, I always prefer and notice when the Furman isn't in the chain.
Best audiophile file converter? These should be bit-perfect converters. If you have Linux, ffmpeg or sox are the way to go. Best,E
Luxman d-08u vs berkeley reference 2 dac I find the alpha smooth, but it's also a little cool sounding. Not analytical, but the opposite of warm. I find the Mytek for me a better balance. Best,E
It isn't the bits, it's the hardware Yep, looks like I was wrong, and a little surprised. I'm still not all that excited about either 36 or 64 bit math here. :) So: I was mistaken, my bad. Best,E
Vivaldi, played badly, is the worst classical music on earth hehe, I mean, I've heard a lot of Vivaldi which was just.... banal. Fatuous. It wasn't like me pretending to play a violin, but it just all seemed boring and flat.
How will the COVID-19 pandemic affect sites like Audiogon? I'm as worried about what this is going to mean to small manufacturers. A lot of the brands we take for granted may be just hanging on. Even B&W for instance has had financial issues of late, covid-19 could very well reshape the landscape.
Can anyone give details on some multi-channel thoughts/purpose? You are implying that my column stopped because there was nothing to write about and that would be incorrect. @kr4 Glad to hear it!! I'm always happy to know of any audiophile who sticks to their passion. I thought you were still writing for S...
How will the COVID-19 pandemic affect sites like Audiogon? While I don't disagree that things are going to get super ugly on unemployment, I think your 40% is a bit over the top. Even during the worst of the Great Depression unemployment topped at 25%. @three_easy_paymentsPlease, please please, plea...
How will the COVID-19 pandemic affect sites like Audiogon? I am no expert, at all, but I have been tracking the world wide infection rates and I listen to a lot of experts. So, given I get paid $0 for my opinion, here’s’ what I see:Unemployment in the US will top 40% this year. The amount of disposable in...
Can anyone give details on some multi-channel thoughts/purpose? OP: Now, in 2020, anything more than stereo is almost entirely for movies/tv. Multi-channel music was attempted with SACD and DVD/Bluray but it really didn't go anywhere. I think it probably got less interest than 3D television watching. Take a lo...
Line fault at the outlet -- do I need an electrician? If your circuit comes from a sub panel, the 4 V may need you to get an electrician. I'm not sure what the requirements are, whether 4V is OK, but it does signal higher than necessary resistance, and that means you'll be ever so slightly power con...
Line fault at the outlet -- do I need an electrician? It does sound like your wiring is reversed.... but!!! It may also be you have a bad neutral. The 4 volts should be zero. It indicates you have higher than normal resistance on that wire. This could happen from bad screw connections or bad twist-...
It isn't the bits, it's the hardware The dual mono DAC increased 64 bit processing power from the prior 36 bit and resulted in a gain of 268 billion higher resolution. I think you meant prior 32 bits, but maybe not. It's also, most likely, unnecessary. I have Roon and it does c...
Headset for Zoom Howard, please let me know....I'm not independently wealthy and keep hemming and hawing about buying one of those.
Bass at your ears? (Bass imaging) Double check that your speaker cables were connected correctly at both ends. Red to red, black to black on both sides. :) |
