High End User Interface for PC Audio
I've tried the wireless keyboard and mouse thing. Its kind of cool, but only so-so functionality-wise. Optical mice, for example, don't track well on glass tables. That is why I revived my touchscreen Airpanel--I can pretty much get away with doing...
High End User Interface for PC Audio
Got my wireless link working last night, so now I'm using a Viewsonic Airpanel: http://www.viewsonic.com/products/mobilewireless/wirelessmonitors/airsyncv210wirelessdisplay/ (basically a 10" touchscreen remote desktop for a networked PC) and a hid...
A trick with Scotch Whisky
Oddly, the Abelour 15 is the other standard fare in my cabinet. I also liked their cask strength offering--A'bundah (sp?)--but it seems to have disappeared from my retailers' shelves...
High End User Interface for PC Audio
I'm using a WT U24 with great results with a dCS Purcell/Delius combo. Haven't really messed with SRC, but I know there is one person who would say that its a better upsampler than any hardware out there... Audioengr?
Computers and audio, perhaps its too soon
One bad part of all this is that there are a bunch of these CDs floating around out there, and apparently the rootkit blows up the "next" windows iteration--longhorn/vista--in a spectacular way. So, these things are going to be like little surpris...
Computers and audio, perhaps its too soon
While I don't condone Sony's actions either (its actually hard to get on Sony's standpoint from any moral ground, given that they apparently violated other people's copyrighted software to protect their own), the issue remains that it is always da...
High End User Interface for PC Audio
Hmm... Something in a form factor that looks like a piece of audio gear, not a computer. Try A-Tech Fabrication, for example. Heat pipe, fanless technology to limit sound. Quiet, isolated HDDs, or RAM drives for added quiet. Real audio outputs wit...
Theta Digital Casablanca
The DTS card enables the box to take a digital feed in DTS format and turn it into multichannel audio. It should work on any of the digital inputs. At least that is what I thought...
A trick with Scotch Whisky
I typically keep the 18yo around, but with the way Macallan prices have gone up the last 5 years, I'll switch to something else for the second glass. The reason I like the 15yo is that its significantly better than the 12yo, and the marginal price...
Solidsteel racks any good
The far right is MSRP; if there is a _____.__ next to it, I think it means they can't show their price. Give 'em a call or shoot 'em an email...
Helmholtz resonator equation help? Anyone?
Fer what its worth, and considering I'm not sure what the heck the various terms really mean, I'm with you. I get:If perf board is 1/4" holes spaced 1", which is what I seem to remember, the "area" of the hole is 3.14*(.125)^2=0.049 sq. inches, so...
Solidsteel racks any good
I'm another happy solidsteel owner. Have an H6 and three or so H6 Partners. Very well built. It may be too late, but I got mine from Savant at a pretty substantial discount. Shipping times are really slow (something about waiting for a shipping co...
Audiophile USB to PCM
Sadly, I gather the Waveterminal is no longer in production. So, if you can find one, its probably an endangered species. I'd just froogle it or google it and see if there is a decent deal out there.
new updates in transports or are they obsolete ?
There may be marginal speed benefits from RAID 5, since I *think* there is some striping, but its not like RAID 1 (RAID 0? I get those confused--whichever is striping but no redundancy), which really is faster even with the same speed drives. That...
new updates in transports or are they obsolete ?
Baddabod-I'll throw my $0.02 in here in defense of Audioengr, since I've got no skin in the game as to whether or not you go HD or transport. My computer based rig sounds to my ear as good as my Eso DV-50s when run through my dCS upsampler and DAC...
