Cueing issue
noromance --  Even though for the life of me I can't see how it could occur, I believe you're on to something.  The problem does seem to happen more often at the lead-in groove.
Cueing issue
@slaw -- Alphason HR100S.  It's also something that doesn't keep me up nights...
... abit confused: how does a power cord affect the presentation of sound...
My experience is that the better power cord gives me less electronic hash, more intense tone colors, and more three-dimensionality.  These differences aren't night and day, but I'm far from ready to dismiss power cord upgrades as snake oil.  I've ...
Solid states more accurate than tubes?
jaferd -- Accuracy in a system can be a double-edged sword.   If fate decrees it that your favorite music has been recorded terribly, sometimes it helps if your system is slightly more forgiving, i.e., more euphonic & less accurate.
Cueing issue
It happens to me about once a month.  The stylus will settle onto the vinyl but the sound will be scratchy & distorted.  I'll mutter an epithet, use the cuing lever to lift the arm up an then let the arm go down again.  Never fails to work.
Classical Music for Aficionados
You guys got me to put on a side of my three disc DG set of Pollini's Chopin Etudes. There's a skip in one of the cuts.  Maurizio can't seem to get past one particularly fiendish passage.  Maurizio!  Que spagliato?
Solid states more accurate than tubes?
The way I see it, let the makers sweat the specs.  Let the listener sweat the "Wow."  ...And I ain't talking about turntable speed instability.
What will audiophiles do Different?
Nothing.
Why don't speaker mfg list amps and associated equip they use to " voice " their sound?
This is where "expert" advice (magazine, internet reviews, dealer advice, etc.) and 30 day trials come in.  I agree, though, that suggestions or recommendations from a manufacturer concerning match-ups would be worth considering.  The recommendati...
Why Don't More People Into Music Reproduction At Home Play Around With Musical Instruments
stu -- As both a crazed audiophile and a crazed amateur musician I agree with a lot of what you say, but the bottom line for me is that the two passions largely remain separate pastimes despite the fact they allow me to worship at the same altar -...
Stereophile complains it's readers are too informed.
I think I've mentioned this in a post somewhere in the semi-distant past, but I find Stereophile vastly more informative, entertaining and readable than it was several years previously.  Sure, I use the magazine to glean info about the hobby and t...

I have Pollini vinyl from both the EMI and DG eras and I got no quarrel with either, other than DGs' slightly cool tonal quality.  As a matter of fact, it was the DG volume of Chopin Etudes that induced me to drag my childhood piano out of my pare...
Tubes, to damp or not to damp?
I may be imagining things but I seem to remember putting Tube Socks over my Quicksilver Mono Amp's output tubes.

What issue of the magazine are you talking about?  Gimme the date, or the volume-issue number.
Leonard Cohen’s “Songs from the Road” sound issues
I thought I had all of Leonard Cohen's albums.  All bought the week they first came out.  I don't have Songs from the Road.  Wow.
