Townes Van Zandt
I saw him once, I think at the Troubadour.  Or was it McCabe's?  Rough, unpolished, utterly honest and endearing.
Most unusual/mesmerizing female voice.
I'm going to stick to mesmerizing.  Laura Nyro, Emma Kirkby, Judith Nelson, Yma Sumac, Janis Joplin, Kate Bush, Ronnie Spector, Billie Holiday, Maria Callas, Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Stevie Nicks, Aretha Franklin, Patsy Cline, Elly Ameling.
Spade vs. banana plug
I agree that a good spade lug does offer peace of mind.  But the components ultimately call the shots.  My Primaluna integrated demands spade lugs.  My Nola speakers demand bananas.
Spade vs. banana plug
An exhaustive series of comparisons seems to be in order, but because spade lug/banana connections always seem located in the part of the components least easily reached, I'll just let somebody else give me the lowdown.
Any ECM fans here?
Sorry, but though I like & own a couple ECM LPs (don't ask me which), I just don't like the label in general.  Their releases don't have enough passion for me.  It's not that the music is mechanical, it's just that it doesn't take chances.   T...
Mesa Boogie vs Fender
We're brewing a great thread here.  I'll drift it a bit further into the weeds.  My first electric was a Strat, and opposed to most of the musical instruments I've donned it is extremely comfortable to wear.  I think my wife still has a Strat some...
Mesa Boogie vs Fender
davey -- To put it simply, I just don’t play any electrified instruments anymore. Just like one of my band members happily/mistakenly exclaimed about the Grateful Dead during one fleeting moment back in the previous century, I’ve gone completely a...
The Who's rock opera "TOMMY" Has there ever been a notable "VINYL REISSUE" ??
You’ve made me break out my bought-the-first-week-it-came-out domestic pressing. Yeah, it had a lot of use back in the day, but it doesn’t seem any worse for wear. A lot of multi-miking and no shortage of artificial reverb, but clarity galore and ...
Mesa Boogie vs Fender
Back when I actually was in a rock band, I played a relic-ed Custom Shop "Pre-CBS" Fender Tele (among other axes) through a genuine Pre-CBS Vibrolux while the other guitarist played his various guitars, both humbucking & single-coil, through a...
Audio stores in or South of San Francisco?
Try Gene Rubin Audio in Ventura.  Good ear.  Good guy.  Good fiddler, too.  By appointment.  805-340-2270.
A long and winding road down memory lane . . .
Great story!
Jazz vocalists which may not be as real as we think/imagine
cd318 -- I actually got a tour of those Capitol Records' subterranean echo facilities.   It was sometime in the 1970's.  The drummer in our rock band wrote publicity for Capitol and had an office in the famous tower.  The office was tiny but he di...
Is imaging reality?
I enjoy artificial, "made up" soundstaging and stereo effects almost if not equally as much as the real thing.  Out-of-phase insanities, echo chamber overkill, multi-tracked vocalists, horse race pan-potting, etc., etc., are tons of fun.  Sure, so...
Qobuz Figaro
I put a drop of Last stylus cleaner onto the brushy surface of my battery-powered Professional Stylus Cleaner, turn on the machine, lay it on my turntable platter, cue my stylus down onto the brushy surface, and let the machine deep clean my cartr...
Is imaging reality?
Though it could be said that imaging is only one of many elements a good system must deliver in order to satisfy, there's no denying that it exerts a hell of a pull.  I crave it.
