Outstanding service from MusicDirect in the USA and Avid Hifi in the UK, read on please!
In my experience, Music Direct is a class act.
Soundstage gone
The stuff is new.  You bought the stuff at a retailer.  Phone them.  Tell them what's up.  They'll tell you what either you or they can do to set things right.  At worst you'll have to drag the kit-and-caboodle back to the store.  Good luck.
Townes Van Zandt
I wrote this little tribute to Townes Van Zandt's song "Pancho and Lefty" about ten years ago for another website.  Forgive the clumsiness of the formatting.  When it comes to formatting, this website is as ornery as a set of mismatched 8417 outpu...
Shipping. Hard Lesson.
When I shipped my SOTA Sapphire to my new home...and it was indeed shipped aboard a freighter...I specifically purchased full replacement insurance for it and for the rest of my stereo gear.  Because the SOTA uses lead shot as ballast and because ...
Old favorites that you still play and still "feel".
Anything, well...almost anything, with David Bowie.  Anything conducted by Bruno Walter.
How to shop for an integrated?
Sure, direct side-by-side comparisons of the components on your "Wanna Buy" list may not entirely be in the cards, but the NY Metro area has got to be a veritable candy-land for high-end hardware. Phone a bunch of dealers. Ask them what they got. ...
l just discovered another one of the record companies dirty tricks?
Ah yes.  A screw-up? Or an exercise in evil?
Manufacturers with Excellent customer service
Yeah, Mike Sanders.   Once upon a time, I lived maybe ten minutes away from the guy.  I had Numbers 031 and 032 Mono Amps (or was it Nos. 032 and 033?). It was the time when he was using 8417 output tubes which were, how shall I say it, lovely sou...
What do/did you do for a living?
mofojo -- make sure you use ear protectors when you do those hits.
Manufacturers with Excellent customer service
I haven't dealt with manufacturers per se but, after about eight years of flawless service the sound of my Primaluna Integrated began to degrade.  I phoned Upscale Audio and guickly got a tech on the phone who described the flavor of every replace...
CHANDOS label...
While cruising through Primephonic, I just happened upon a Chandos recording of Victorian era British composer Dame Ethyl Smyth's cantata The Prison.  Needless to say, I'd never heard of Ethyl Smyth or her cantata.  Anyway, in a few words, damn, i...
Recommendations for a network streamer for my system playing Tidal Masters
Not that I have done any comparison shopping, but I still enjoy my Mytek Brooklyn Bridge to the point where I just don't have any urge to replace it.
What have you been working on in 2020?
I relentlessly video my violin playing in a quest to to get fully at ease in front of the camera.  I sit at the piano and patiently tackle Scott Joplin and Frederic Chopin.  I scour my way through Primephonic and Qobuz in a quest to hear every rec...
Why do you like a song? What makes it a favorite?
A lot of things can push my Like Button.  A compelling short musical phrase or riff.  Like in the Rolling Stone's Satisfaction or the opening of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.  Likewise, it's great if the music works on a larger canvas -- if it takes...
CHANDOS label...
I like Chandos records.  I only have a couple of them, but no complaints.  Fine fidelity.  Fine performances.
