Sad News-- Nancy Griffith Has Passed
One of my favorite artists.
Calling all Sota fans.
I have a Sota Sapphire from 1984 that I regularly updated until about the turn of the century. I had a certain amount of troubles with it in the early days, but after a couple shaming letters to Sota in Berkeley (this was before email), they sent ...
Is today’s contemporary music lacking?
If a contemporary pop artist/group gains notoriety or acclaim, I'll ring 'em up on Qobuz, YouTube, etc. Sorry to say, I haven't yet found one that makes me yell yes, but I'm not going to stop trying.  It'd be totally cool if one of them knocked me...
Is your now then?
I don't regret a single upgrade I've made over the years. Yeah, I still do sometimes miss the tone of my ancient Denon 103(?) but I don't miss its terrible tracking and end-of-side distortion. The same goes for the Koetsu Black I had for a while. ...
Keeping Audiophilia And The Love Of Music Alive & Well!
@oldaudiophile -- If you like Cognac, give the Delamain brand a try. Even their cheapest offering (which ain't so cheap) is a glimpse of heaven in a glass.
Have you heard darTZeel Amplifiers
Totally excellent gear. If I had the lucre I would have owned it years ago.
Classical Music for Aficionados
Right now I'm enjoying the absolute heck out of a Primephonic stream of Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra with Ormandy and the Philly. Spacious. Performed with energy, wit and a whole lot of love.  Maybe a hair bright, but then again the recording m...
CD Quality Versus Streaming Quality
As sns sez. I especially agree with his opinions on Springsteen and Genesis recordings. At that time, I was buying first edition vinyl straight off the presses, and the classic Springsteen & Genesis records sounded like they were made to sound...
Daily Record cleaning
I let my Decca Brush do three revolutions.
Is your now then?
My dad was an audio nut. And my first encounter with high end sound was the Heathkit mono system he soldered together on the kitchen table in the late 1950’s. He took me to a couple audio shows at the Ambassador Hotel in downtown L.A., where I hea...
Keeping Audiophilia And The Love Of Music Alive & Well!
I truly enjoyed haunting audio stores when I lived in a large metropolitan area. And if I was truly impressed with what I heard and I had the lucre, I'd bring the stuff home, too, for at least an overnight. The same went (even more so) when it cam...
Who is ditching their shiny disc spinners?
Rooze -- Yeah, getting stuff via mail order does giveth, but it also taketh away. The whole world at your fingertips. But, ugh, the bureaucracy. And whoever it was who sold you the stuff deserves to be called out.
NEVER BUY CHEAP CASSETTES - - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR
Yeah, generic brand cassettes...and the pre-recorded cassettes you used to buy at retail outlets...could be almost embarrassingly bad. Unwind for me! Stuhretchhhh!
Sony XA5400Es CD Player DAC Upgrade?
Yeah, I hate to say it but....  I get better (if not Whole World of Difference) fidelity in every parameter when I route my XA5400's Red Book output through my much-maligned-on-this-website's Mytek Brooklyn Bridge.  With hybrid discs, the Mytek BB...
Listening at Night vs. Day
Yeah, it sounds better when the electrical grid is little bit less stressed. But I've never found it to be the proverbial "whole world of difference." The evening is also a quieter time in terms of traffic & such. It's your neighbors you are n...
