El34 = KT88 = KT120
I want to hear...errr...read the results of your shootout. When the EL34s in my PrimaLuna lost their mojo, the guy at Upscale quizzed me as to what my system was and what I wanted for it to satisfy me more. He suggested I try 6550's.  And yes, I'm...

I haven't lived in L.A. for a couple of years, so who knows if these places still exist, but here are some places that are excellent by any standard.Shelley's Audio in Woodland Hills in the San Fernando Valley.Brooks Berdan in the San Gabriel Vall...
quiet classical music
Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. They just motor along happily, with good tunes and few surprises. There are six of them. Try the Second or the Fifth.
Classical music listening... what is a better source High Rez or Vinyl?
@idigmusic64True vintage 45 rpm classical discs have got to be as rare as hen’s teeth. My sense of it is that Thirty-Three-and-a-Third 10" and 12" High-Fi LP discs essentially directly replaced the bulky, low-fi 78 rpm zillion disc classical recor...
Poor grammar is disappointing and decidedly distracting in formal audio reviews.
To this I proclaim to all propinquitous purveyors of propriety. I intend to be a dotard ’till my dotage!

I worked in the movie business for many years and I gotta say I've never come across a better collection of writers. It didn't matter whether the piece of writing was a novel, a screenplay or just an email to remind us of an upcoming holiday.

It's always fun to have fun with homonyms and "proper spellings." As far as I'm concerned, Spell Check is the bane of the erudite. I can almost hear snickers coming from my spell check software. "Let's duh, duh, dumb it down!"
Car Audio and the High End
@wspohn The scream of a siren as it approaches from behind. The siren's decreasing pitch as the fire truck/ambulance/police car zooms by me for parts unknown.

I actually wrote my Linguistics Masters Thesis on the subject of English Grammar. And lemme' say (comma, comma down, doo-bee-doo-down-down), that I just love the creative ways writers deal with commas.  Do they want to slow us down so that every f...
Car Audio and the High End
@wspohn As wspohn sez, with my sports car it's all about the noises the vehicle makes.  The whines of the different gears.  The clatter of the valves. The rise and fall of the exhaust note. The sound of the wind in my ears. The roar, clop-clop and...
Excellent Speakers for Classical Music - $2,000 USD Budget

Classical Music for Aficionados
When I sit down at the piano nowadays, it's the book of Chopin manuscripts that I open first. Of course, I go for the easier pieces but that doesn't mean they're easy. In any case, no matter how how easy or difficult a Chopin work may be, they nev...
Build a wooden crate or use a cardboard box for Amplifier.
I double-cardboard boxed my PrimaLuna integrated using using plenty of foam and bubble wrap. It successfully made it across the seas by freighter with all tubes plugged in and intact.
Anybody gone from ethernet to optical for connection to a streamer?
I don't have optical ethernet capability, but I have to say that, from my CD player to my DAC, I'm not going back to traditional interconnects from an Optical one I installed a couple months ago. Just a little bit higher fidelity in every respect.
Sinatra Sing and Dance with Frank Sinatra on Impex vinyl
This Sinatra fan regularly listens to what I believe is an original issue  Sinatra at the Sands double LP set.  And yeah, it sounds excellent...even if slightly-over-the-edge audiophiles would be upset that Frank clearly has a mike in his hand. I'...
