Is participating in this Forum infringing on and spoiling some of your listening time?
It's perfect reading while listening to my system. Yeah, I'll skim through the longer posts but I enjoy the comradery with my fellow audio enthusiasts. By the same token, though, reading poetry or classic novels while listening to music does take ...
Your Favorite Christmas Song-One only Please-
"Es Sungen Drei Engel" by Gustav Mahler.
Why do all Mahler recordings seem too bright?
Huh? Wha? My many Mahler recordings are actually pretty well balanced, tone-wise. Maybe it's my forgiving system or my admittedly ancient LPs, but from the Solti London recordings to the Bruno Walter Odyssey recordings to the Horensteins to my thr...
Qobuz vs.Idagio
Catalogue is better than the late, lamented Primephonic. Opera is still not to snuff (probably because all the space it occupies and the size of the audience), but I have a heck of a lot of fun going to, say, a Beethoven Middle Period Quartet, and...
Qobuz vs.Idagio
I enjoy the fidelity I get via Idagio a heck of a lot. At its best, Qobuz can still give me better resolution, imaging and tonal quality than Idagio, especially when my machinery majesterially grants me hi-rez (maybe 50% of the time), but the Idag...

Sexiest New 'Vintage'-Style Integrated/Amp/Receiver
I like the looks of the PrimaLuna Integrateds. 1930's Mad Scientist/Amateur Anarchist.
Kudos on a spam-free morning here
Thank goodness for the spamo-pause (and soon it'll be time for Spamo Claus), but they got us tagged. Folks with more dolores than scents. ...Sorry fellow posters. The stereo is sounding particularly excellent this morning.
Listening to music I don’t particularly like
bikeske -- Try the Third Movement, the Adagio, of Bruckner's Symphony #8, in a performance by Eugen Jochum and the Berlin Philharmonic on Deutsche Grammaphon. The rest of the symphony can get, as Bruckner tends to be, more than a little long in th...
What are you streaming tonight?
David Crosby's hippie era "If I Can Only Remember My Name" on Qobuz. My provider can't seem to deliver it in Hi-Def but the CD transmission level still sounds marvelous. Clean. 3D. Notably lifelike vocal and guitar tone. Jerry Garcia and a host of...
Bands/artists you never got to see live in their heyday, but would've liked to.
@misterspooky - I saw the New York Dolls, I think at the Santa Monica Civic. They were awful. All posing. No talent to speak of. I actually sold my New York Dolls record soon after seeing them. I later saw David Johansen solo. Yeah he was actually...
the greatest pop song ever?
There are some fine choices here. Not mentioned in this horse race but two tunes that have always been at the top for this baby boomer are... "I'm Alive" by the Hollies. "I've Got You Under My Skin" by Sinatra. The one issued in the 1960's.
Have you ever been turned off by an Arrogant Dealer? Thoughts
@fiesta75 Wow. A high-end shop in Honolulu. The best...er only...high-end shop I've come across on the Big Island is the Hilo Office Max. Hey, they actually do have interconnects and ethernet cable...though the cheap stuff. Yeah, my nearest high-...
Audiophile virtues
@femmoore12 -- I gotta disagree. The system -- from car radio to earbuds to state-of-the-art stereo to a live music experience -- is what sends the music your way. The better the system, the better it sends the music to you, and the better it pene...
darTZeel CTH-8550 MKII integrated Amplifier-review!
I actually heard one once at a high fi show. Yeah, the room sounded good. It's one of those brands that could open my pocketbook if I were feeling a bit foolish.
