Sound
I bathe in the beautiful sound I get from my stereo. What can I say? Listening to my stereo is a treat.
Other factors affecting sound
When I built my new house I told the electrician to put higher grade wires, separate paths & such into my proposed listening room. I got PS Audio receptacles from one of the audiophile mail order sites. The electrician looked at them with amus...
How many SACD / Blu-ray audio / DVD audio / etc do you own?
Twenty-seven.
Playing CDs sounds better than Qobuz — dammit
@pedroeb -- The only format that has ever shown itself to be consistently, truly above the others on my system is Qobuz top-shelf hi-rez streaming. Below that is vinyl, but that doesn't mean Red Book or SACD doesn't ooch above vinyl a reasonable ...
Sony SACD Player SCD-XA5400ES; YAY or NAY?
Oh yeah, not to once again tout my now scorned Mytek Brooklyn Bridge, but I do get better if not earthshakingly better CD sound when I send the Sony's CD signal through the Mytek via Opto.
Playing CDs sounds better than Qobuz — dammit
Say what you will, dudes & dudettes, but right now via Qobuz I'm listening to an absolutely excellent, excellently recorded performance of Beethoven's 8th Symphony. Vienna Philharmonic on DGG, conducted by Andris Nelsons. I'm listenin' happy. ...
Why I'm not adding a sub to my 2-way monitors for music
@nymarty Paradigm DSP 3100. And hey -- glad there's another NOLA Boxer user out there!
Compact Disc and Vinyl Habits
There's something to be said about forking money over to purchase media and to store it on a bookshelf or burn it onto a CD, hard drive, SD Card, etc. This was brought home to me when Qobuz simply decided to discontinue streaming one of my "favori...
Compact Disc and Vinyl Habits
@paulg1966  Wow! Le Orme... I have two of their releases on Italian LPs, bought back in the day, before CDs existed. Still in my collection. Haven't played them in years but, hey, you might have convinced me to spin a side or two. And still some ...
Sony SACD Player SCD-XA5400ES; YAY or NAY?
I continue to enjoy my XA5400ES.  SQ-wise, it competes with (though truly seldom surpasses) both my vinyl and internet sources even when it is just spinning CDs. It definitely sounds better than did my previous SACD/CD player, a Marantz. I hope I'...
Do we really know what "Live" music sounds like?
Yeah. All the time. Every day. If the sound doesn't come from me, myself, it comes from listening to my wife play her various brands and models of acoustic guitars.
Words and Sound
Elac -- He doesn't laaak it! Kenwood -- Clint Eastwood's accountant brother. Marantz -- I want less of 'em, not mare of 'em, in my pants. SOTA -- because the gear sounds watery and fizzy. Okay, I'll stop now...
Why I'm not adding a sub to my 2-way monitors for music
With a modicum of subwoofer positioning & some twisting of the dials on the back of the Paradigm sub, I used one of my fistful of test CDs (was it one of the Stereophile ones?) to achieve flat, eminently musical bass response in my listening r...
Share albums where EVERY SINGLE song is good
I find it amazing that so many folks here find so many albums/LPs to be without a weak cut. C'mon dudes and dudettes! Prove your Audiogon cred. Sharpen those bludgeons. 😀
Why I'm not adding a sub to my 2-way monitors for music
I adjusted my modest Paradigm subwoofer by ear. Sounds great. Adds what I missed with my Nola Boxers. Nothing more.
