Qobuz/Tidal Differences
@audiodwebe  I'm a subjective guy. I lack the zeal to perform any rigid comparison analysis. The way the two present themselves on my modest system, I'd call Qobuz tubey and Tidal transistory. Both deliver. They're both excellent.. Name your poiso...
Qobuz/Tidal Differences
Qobuz is warmer-sounding. Tidal is cooler. Imaging, soundstaging & clarity are about the same. To me, though, the important thing is that they have different tastes. If you want to hear Classical (and I do), you got to go with Qobuz.
What is your favorite cover?
Truly the Byrds' Mr. Tambourine Man and their other Dylan covers. But right now all I can think of is Tony Bennett doing George Harrison's "Something in the Way She Moves." Big. Lush. Gorgeous. Excellent recording, too.
Dumping it all for Lyngdorf???
I remember being mightily impressed by a Lyngdorf system when I heard it at a couple of stores. I can't remember the reasons why I didn't pull the trigger. But it still struck me as an extremely high quality product.
Who actually heard the Infinity IRS?
I heard ’em several times at a passel of L.A. high end stores and at a hi-fi show or two..Impressive & as big-sounding as their size imply,  They sound-staged like champs, but I only heard them once when they didn’t feel a bit hard, analytical...
Classical Music for Aficionados
Yeah, I love Janacek. A modernist but a highly accessible one. Plenty of spirit and life. Ravel meets Stravinsky.
Usb or Optical
When I had a DAC with an optical input, I found that it got me slightly better sound than USB when I connected it to the only other optical-equipped component in my system, a Sony CD player..
No more "High End" for me...Back to Reality Audio
Yeah, I enjoyed the high end roller-coaster more than I should admit, and I still read the monthly audio rags cover-to-cover., But what can I say? I just enjoy my system as it's currently laid out. Whenever something breaks I replace it. But essen...
What Recordings Of Yours Did Not Age Well?
Back in my crazed, buy a record a week days, I regularly went to the various used record stores to off-load the stuff that I couldn't bear to look at on my shelves. I have little memory of what they might've been.
Classical Music for Aficionados
Diary of One Who Disappeared, by Leos Janacek. Claudio Abaddo, Berlin Phil and various vocal soloists. A DGG CD I fished off my shelf. Bought used. In a generic jewel box with no liner notes. Did I buy it at Amoeba Records in Hollywood? At Moby Di...
Any Fans of Brahm’s Violin Concerto, opus77 ?
A big, square, very Brahms-ian composition. I don't put it on the 'table often but I enjoy it when I do. My recording -- the Heifetz/Reiner/Chicago Symphony one on an RCA audiophile pressing.
Hana Umami Red or Lyra Kleos?
@skyscraper  The Hana is indeed warmer than the Lyra was, but the difference is far from night and day. Both cartridges were/are quite balanced in my admittedly forgiving system -- Moon phono stage, Primaluna integrated, NOLA Boxer speakers.
Hana Umami Red or Lyra Kleos?
I'm telegraphing this in from the slums, but I recently replaced my worn-out Lyra Delos with a Hana ML, and I have to say I'm liking my Hana a heck of a lot. The Hana was a bit tizzy during the first week, but it has mellowed out and is now warm, ...
What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report
Richard Strauss’ Alpine Symphony with the Vienna Phil conducted by Christian Zimmerman on DGG. Okay, it’s actually an SACD with no CD layer. A sterling performance, with about as good a quality sound as Deutsche Grammophon can muster.
Anybody else notice...
I enjoy the new blood.
