Speakers for string Quartets
My NOLA Boxer speakers (via my Primaluna integrated) work quite well for this fiddle/violin player. With a good EMI or Philips recording, timbre can be pretty close to convincing. DGG can suffer from the usual brightness, but what can you say?
Classical Music for Aficionados
I've just finished listening to a first class SACD of Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony doing a spectacular, heart-rending rendition of Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. All I can say after listening to it is that very little has changed in Bar...
Are Harbeth the only warm and euphonic speakers in town ?
I have no idea if they're still made but NOLA Boxers may fit the bill. Sweet & natural.
Best double live vinyl?
It's why I keep my vintage Garrard on hand.
Commonly mentioned speaker brands?
I gotta say that almost every brand mentioned in the posts on this site are of definite quality. Yeah, the musical tastes on this site do tend toward classic 60's - 70's era rock but that's okay. Long story short -- if you can't make your way to a...
What is an audiophile? Are you an audiophile?
I gotta say that emaillists really has a handle on the best sense of what being an audiophile is/ought to be. It's not the gear that matters. It's what the gear delivers.
Does carpet deaden the sound too much?
I also have plenty of LPs lining the side and rear walls.
What is an audiophile? Are you an audiophile?
Ninety-nine percent of the time, good audio gear makes the music you like sound better.  In turn, high fidelity is a wonderful facilitator of making your musical experience more enjoyable. Of making the music you like more deeply felt.

I now have my best listening room ever -- Bare wood floor. Plaster ceiling. A gently rectangular shape. Solid wood door. No acoustic treatments.
Audiophile Myth - Subjective or Objective for Music
It's a truly good thing when you are finally able to balance/reconcile the objective and the subjective.  When the two are in balance, it's bliss.
The Good Stuff
Regarding tone vs. intonation -- as frogman sez....The most lucid analysis I've come across, too.
Do we really know what "Live" music sounds like?
If your ears and brain enable you to fill in the blanks for a reasonable amount of recordings, you've got a good "lifelike" system.
Records, CDs, Streaming
The percentage changes pretty regularly. I tend to go on binges. Sometimes I'll stream like crazy, sucking up every obscure performance of a favorite classical piece on Idagio or Qobuz.. Because I just got a new cartridge, I'll go to my record she...
Music that swings
@voodoolounge Sinatra, Basie. Yeah!
What is your favorite cover?
@middlemass How 'bout taking a less doctrinaire approach? How about taking initial posts such as the one here as conversation starters, not instructions written in cyber stone? We used to call these sorts of websites "Chat Rooms." Chat! Have fun! ...
