Building high-end 'tables cheap at Home Despot II
Re installing Jean's TJN mod kit, I did it by myself in a few hours, and I'm almost 82. A little tricky in spots, but I don't see why you would have any trouble. Good luck, Dave
Is this Foolish?
Audiofeil is right. The table and arm are much more important than the cart.
Are you too old to be an audiophile?
Well, you may not be a kid, Jax2, but you're a bunch younger than my son. BTW, I just bought a new cart and a spare armtube for my JMW 10.5i arm today.
Are you too old to be an audiophile?
Doug, when you mature, you'll know better.
Are you too old to be an audiophile?
At 81 I obviously can't hear the higher frequencies. The nice thing is that you (I) don't miss them. And thank heaven I can't hear most of them, as in the ones you cite. I can still detect cable differences (real ones) and can spot inverted and no...
Stylus replacement for Shure V-15 v MR
Arfan, I got my last one from LP Gear.
Stylus replacement for Shure V-15 v MR
Orpheus10, I also considered the cart mid-fi ... until I got the JICO/SAS stylus assembly. I just ordered another one in case they stop making the things.
Stylus replacement for Shure V-15 v MR
I love Soundsmith, but in this case I'd go for a JICO/SAS stylus assembly. I hope someone here can provide a link.
Why & How to Make the 845 Power Tube of Choice?
Regarding the light output of 845s, I resorted to sticking things on top of the transformers as light shields so that the tubes didn't blind me :-)The metal plate 845s are the primary culprits here, in my experience.
Why & How to Make the 845 Power Tube of Choice?
I agree with you about the awesome wonders of an 845-based SET, but not much else. To me the most important thing about an 845 design is the transformers. My custom-designed 845 monoblocks have trannies the size of a loaf of bread (well, almost) a...
Anybody find themselves revisiting old threads?
A related question: Ever been embarrassed by what you discovered you wrote earlier in a long-ago thread?I'm sure you know why I ask :-)
MC loading at 47K
Something that hasn't been mentioned: Anyone with a phonostage offering instantaneous load change comparisons like my Aesthetix Rhea will be aware that the audible difference as you go from sub-100 ohms to 47 kOhms isn't nearly as great as you mig...
Attn Vinyl lovers - what CD Player do you use?
I guess it's time for an update, after 4 years. Still using (and loving) the Raysonic CD128 but the Ack dAck is long gone. For the past year or so I've owned an Oppo BDP-83SE, primarily for SACDs. The Oppo also sounds very good on CDs for the pric...
MC loading at 47K
Some folks including Charles Hansen (Ayre) and the late Allen Wright recommended running all MCs at 47kOhms. I think Harry Pearson (HP) of The Absolute Sound recommended it too (don't know if he still does). I tried it and liked it with a Denon DL...
